If your phone is an hour early or late after a daylight-saving change, check its automatic date and time and time-zone settings first. Then check location access if the phone uses it to choose a time zone, install any available system update, and restart if the device says updated time-zone information is ready. If automatic adjustment still does not work, select the time zone that matches your actual location—not an arbitrary one-hour offset.
Why a phone may miss a daylight-saving change
A phone’s displayed local time depends on both the time it receives and the time-zone rules it applies. An incorrect time zone, a disabled automatic time-zone setting, unavailable or inaccurate location-based detection, or time-zone information that needs updating can all be consistent with a clock that is off by an hour. These are possibilities, not a diagnosis of a particular phone.

Check whether the date is wrong too, whether you recently traveled, and whether the system clock—not just one app—shows the wrong time. The 12- or 24-hour display setting changes how time is shown; it does not correct the underlying time or time zone.
Fix the clock on an iPhone
- Connect to the internet and install any available iOS update.
- Open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services and turn on Setting Time Zone. This allows the iPhone to use its location to identify the time zone.
- If an alert says updated time-zone information is available, restart the iPhone and any paired Apple Watch.
- If the time or zone is still wrong, turn off Set Automatically in Date & Time and choose the appropriate city or time zone, or set the date and time manually. Confirm the named zone matches where you are.
Apple says Set Automatically may not be available with every carrier or in every country or region. A Screen Time passcode or a corporate profile that restricts device settings can also make the control unavailable or gray it out. See Apple’s time and time-zone troubleshooting guidance.

Fix the clock on an Android phone
- Open the Clock app, tap More > Settings, then choose Change date and time. Turn on Automatic date and time.
- In the same date-and-time settings, turn on Automatic time zone. Depending on the device, automatic time-zone detection may use location.
- If the automatic zone is unavailable or selects the wrong zone, use Time zone or the device’s manual time-zone selection to choose the correct zone for your location.
- Check for a system update if the device may have outdated local time-zone rules.
Android menu names and available controls vary by device. Google notes that some phones support only location-based time-zone setting, so a manual selection may not be available on every model. Follow Google’s Android time, date, and time-zone steps for the device-specific guidance.
If automatic time-zone detection still fails
Confirm the phone has internet access, that automatic date and time are enabled, and that location access is available where the device relies on it for time-zone detection. Then install available system updates and restart if the phone reports that updated time-zone information is ready. Google says Google Play services for system management can support time-zone updates; some system-management functions work only on Android 9 and later. Choose the right manual setting
Do not simply add or subtract an hour without checking the time zone. Select the named zone for your actual location and verify that the date and local time then make sense. Daylight-saving rules depend on location and date; without knowing yours, it is not possible to say whether a particular region should currently be observing a clock change.
