A Galaxy Z Fold can drain quickly because of setup activity, an app working in the background, weak cellular signal, display use, or a battery that has worn with age. Start by checking which apps use the most power, then make targeted changes; if the drain remains unusual, run Samsung Members diagnostics or contact Samsung support.
Could the timing explain the battery drain?
If your Fold is new or was recently set up, battery use may temporarily rise during the first few days while apps and services are optimized, according to Samsung’s UK battery guidance. That is one possible explanation, not proof that persistent or severe drain is normal. If the phone has been in use longer, or the problem does not settle, check its battery usage and settings.

Which apps are using the battery?
Look at the usage details before restricting apps. Samsung’s US guidance gives the path Settings > Battery > View details; labels and menus can differ by Fold generation and software version. See Samsung’s Galaxy battery-drain troubleshooting instructions for its US guidance.

Compare the app list with your actual use. An app that accounts for unexpectedly high usage despite little or no use is worth investigating, particularly if the drain started after you installed or updated it. The usage screen helps narrow down where to look; by itself, it does not prove an app or the phone has a fault.

How to reduce background app activity
Samsung recommends restricting background activity for apps you rarely use. On supported software, look under Settings > Battery > Background usage limits for sleeping and deep sleeping options. The exact labels and location can vary.
- Sleeping apps have limited background activity.
- Deep sleeping apps do not run in the background and work only when you open them manually.
Choose carefully: deep-sleeping an app can delay or prevent notifications and other background tasks. Avoid putting messaging, security, navigation, or other apps in that list if you rely on them to update or alert you promptly. Samsung also recommends Device Care optimization; the available controls depend on your model and software.

When Power saving mode may help
Power saving mode can reduce consumption, but it is a runtime tradeoff rather than a cost-free fix. Samsung says it can restrict background data and high-power features. Use it when extending time between charges matters more than having every background activity or feature available, and review the mode’s options on your device before relying on it.

Reduce avoidable screen-on time
Samsung recommends reducing screen-on time and reviewing settings such as screen timeout and Adaptive brightness. These adjustments can help when display use is a significant part of your routine; they will not necessarily address drain caused by an app or poor coverage.

Check signal and 5G use
A weak or unstable cellular signal can increase battery consumption. Samsung also notes that 5G may use more power and create more warmth in some network configurations, including situations where the phone maintains connections to multiple networks. If your carrier and Fold model allow it, compare battery behavior on LTE in places where 5G coverage is weak. Results depend on the local network and your device, so an LTE comparison is a diagnostic check, not a guaranteed fix.

Rechargeable batteries wear through repeated charging and discharging. Samsung describes the battery as a consumable component whose capacity gradually decreases and cannot be restored. If drain remains unusual after you have checked app usage, background settings, display habits, and coverage, run phone diagnostics in the Samsung Members app if they are available on your device, or contact Samsung support or service.
Samsung’s general guidance does not establish a universal battery-health percentage, screen-on-time threshold, Fold-specific replacement criterion, or repair price. Whether service is appropriate depends on the device’s condition and the diagnosis; a battery-usage list alone does not establish a hardware fault.
