Fitbit’s Find Phone feature makes a paired phone ring loudly, but only when five conditions are met. The Fitbit must be paired to that phone. The phone’s Bluetooth must be on. The phone must be within 30 feet (10m). The Google Health app must be running in the background. The phone must be powered on. If the phone stays silent, one of those has almost certainly failed. This guide covers them in order, then the model-specific way to open the feature, the checks to run when everything looks right, and what to do if the phone is out of range.
Start with the five requirements
These come from Fitbit’s (now Google Health) Help Center guidance on app troubleshooting. Check them in this order, because the first ones are the quickest to rule out.

| Requirement | What to check |
|---|---|
| Paired to this phone | The Fitbit must be paired with the phone you are trying to locate, not an older or secondary phone. |
| Bluetooth on | Confirm Bluetooth is enabled in the phone’s quick settings, not just that an icon looks active. |
| Within 30 feet (10m) | This is the stated limit. Walls, floors and pockets of clutter can make a practical range shorter, so move closer to where you think the phone is. |
| Google Health app running in the background | Do not force-close it. Make sure no battery-saver or background-restriction setting stops it. |
| Phone powered on | A phone that is off or has a dead battery cannot ring. |
Open Find Phone on your Fitbit model
The gesture differs by model. From the clock face:
- Sense and Versa 3: swipe left.
- Sense 2 and Versa 4: press the button.
- Charge 5, Inspire 3 and Luxe: swipe down.
Then open the Find Phone app and tap Find Phone. Fitbit says the phone rings loudly. If you are in the wrong menu, you will not find the option, so confirm your model first. Models not listed here may use a different path; Fitbit’s guidance covers only those above.

- Confirm the connection. Open the Google Health app and check that your Fitbit appears as the connected device for this phone.
- Reopen the app. If you swiped Google Health away, open it once and let it run in the background rather than force-closing it again.
- Update the app. Fitbit’s app guidance lists pending updates among the things that can affect function.
- Review permissions. Check the app’s permissions and any background-activity restrictions in your phone’s settings.
- Cycle Bluetooth. Turn it off, wait a few seconds, turn it on again.
- Restart both devices. Google’s setup troubleshooting recommends restarting the Fitbit and the phone for connection problems. This is a general connection fix, not a guaranteed Find Phone fix.
Use a sync to tell connection trouble from a Find Phone problem
Try a manual sync. Google’s sync instructions say the Fitbit must stay near the phone and walk through connection, update and restart checks. If sync also fails, the problem is the Bluetooth link, so fix that first. If sync works but Find Phone does not, focus on the background-operation and permission checks above. A failed sync points you toward the connection, but it does not prove it is the cause of every Find Phone failure.
Check platform and account requirements
Google’s setup requirements page currently says the Google Health app needs Android 11 or higher, or iOS 16.4 or higher, plus a Google Account. These minimums can change, so if your phone is old and the app will not install or update, check Google’s current requirements page first.

If the phone is out of range
Find Phone is a nearby-device aid. Beyond 30 feet (10m) it will not work, and no setting changes that. For an eligible Android phone, Google’s separate Find Hub service is an alternative route. It is not a fix for Find Phone. It depends on being signed in to your Google Account and on device settings such as Location and “Allow device to be located,” which need to be set up before the phone goes missing. Fitbit’s documentation does not offer a comparable fallback for iPhone, so use your phone maker’s own locating service there.
