Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStart by checking that the water tank is full and seated correctly, then follow your machine’s instructions to fill or prime its water circuit. If the pump runs but espresso still will not flow, check the filter and portafilter, then review the grind, dose and tamp before descaling if your model indicates scale or calls for maintenance. The right steps depend on whether you have a portafilter or fully automatic machine, so identify the model before troubleshooting.
First, identify the symptom and your machine
Find the model number and open its manual before trying a procedure. De’Longhi’s instructions are model-specific; there is no single reset, priming or cleaning sequence that applies to every machine. Its troubleshooting pages describe problems such as “Espresso coffee does not flow out” and “No espresso is delivered.”

- No water comes out: Check the tank and whether the water circuit needs filling or priming.
- The pump runs, but coffee does not flow: Check for an obstruction and review the coffee preparation.
- Water flows, but coffee does not: On a portafilter machine, investigate the filter, grind and dose.
- Flow is slow or an indicator appears: Consult the manual for the model’s maintenance and descaling instructions.
A fully automatic machine has an infuser or brewing unit rather than a portafilter. Its location and removal instructions vary by model, so do not apply portafilter steps to it.

Check the tank and water circuit
Fill the tank with fresh water and press it firmly into place. On some models, the tank must be seated far enough for valves at its bottom to open. If the machine signals that its coffee or steam circuit is empty, use the model’s circuit-fill instruction rather than guessing at a priming sequence.

For the pump espresso makers covered by its FAQ, De’Longhi notes: “If the pump espresso maker is new, or has not been used for some time, there may be air in the system.” For those machines, the FAQ advises placing a cup beneath the traditional frother, opening the steam valve fully and letting water run for at least 30 seconds. Close the valve after water begins to flow. This procedure is not a universal instruction for all De’Longhi machines; check that it applies to your model.
If the pump runs but espresso will not flow
On a compatible portafilter machine, check whether water passes through without coffee only if the manual permits that test. If it does, but coffee does not flow when the portafilter is loaded, the coffee puck or a dirty or blocked part may be restricting delivery.

- PERSONALIZE WITH MY LATTE: Allows you to personalize and save your own recipes
- EASY TO CLEAN: Removable and dishwasher-safe parts for easy cleaning
- Remove and rinse the filter and portafilter as directed in the manual; clear visible coffee residue.
- Check that the grind is suitable for espresso. De’Longhi lists coffee ground too finely as a possible cause on its Dedica Maestro Plus help page.
- Make sure the dose is within the filter basket’s limit. Excess coffee can obstruct flow; there is no one dose that applies to every basket.
- Avoid tamping more firmly than the model’s instructions recommend. Excessive tamping is another cause De’Longhi identifies for the Dedica Maestro Plus.
If water does not flow even when the coffee is removed, return to the tank and circuit checks, then consult the manual for a blockage or maintenance warning. Do not force a cleaning method that the model’s instructions do not specify.

Descale when the model calls for it
Scale in the water circuit is listed as a cause of no espresso delivery in the EC9885 and EC9555 manuals. De’Longhi’s pump-machine FAQ also says an older machine that cannot deliver coffee may need descaling. Use a descaling solution compatible with your model and follow its manual’s complete instructions, including the rinse and indicator-light sequence. Do not treat descaling as a substitute for checking the tank, circuit or filter.

When to contact De’Longhi support
If the tank is full and seated, the circuit has been filled as directed, and model-approved cleaning and maintenance have not restored flow, contact De’Longhi support or an authorized service provider. Stop if a removable unit is stuck; do not force it. Avoid dismantling a hot or pressurized machine. The manufacturer’s public instructions cited here do not establish a universal internal repair procedure.
