Xbox does not list PS5 as a supported device for Xbox Cloud Gaming. That means there is no official PS5 setting that can make Xbox Cloud Gaming run properly there. If you see lag or a blurry picture while trying to play, first check whether you are actually using a supported Xbox device or PlayStation’s separate cloud-streaming service. On a supported Xbox Cloud Gaming device, connection quality, latency, location, and the device itself can all affect performance.
Can you use Xbox Cloud Gaming on PS5?
Not officially, according to Xbox’s current supported-device information. Xbox lists supported devices and browsers such as Windows PCs, phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, select smart TVs, Fire TV, Meta Quest, and Edge, Chrome, or Safari at xbox.com. PS5 is not on that list.

PlayStation does offer cloud streaming on PS5, but it is a different service: PlayStation Plus Premium streams select PlayStation games to PS5 and PlayStation Portal. It does not provide access to Xbox Cloud Gaming’s catalog. PlayStation’s US page lists a 5 Mbps upload and download minimum to start a session, and recommends 13 Mbps for 720p, 23 Mbps for 1080p, 38 Mbps for 1440p, and 52 Mbps for 2160p. Those figures apply to PlayStation’s service, not Xbox Cloud Gaming; availability and game selection vary by location and can change. See PlayStation’s cloud-streaming details.

Why can cloud gaming lag or look blurry?
On a supported device, a cloud game is streamed over the internet, so responsiveness and picture quality depend in part on the connection between the device and the service. Microsoft says slow internet or high latency can contribute to lag and affect visual quality. It also notes that performance varies with connection, location, device, and other factors. A speed test can help identify a connection problem, but it cannot by itself diagnose every cause of lag or blur.
- Lag: High latency or an unstable connection can delay the response to controller input. Other devices or apps using substantial bandwidth may also compete with a game stream.
- Blur: A stream’s visual quality can be affected by connection conditions and the device. A blurry image is not proof that Wi-Fi alone is at fault.
- Platform mismatch: If the target device is PS5, Xbox’s published support information does not establish that the console can run Xbox Cloud Gaming. Network adjustments cannot add official support.
How to troubleshoot Xbox Cloud Gaming on a supported device
- Verify the device and game. Check Xbox’s Cloud Gaming page for supported devices, regions, and game access requirements. Xbox says a supported device and region, a compatible controller (except for select touch-control games), and a connection are required. Some free-to-play titles may be available with a free Microsoft account in supported regions; access to other titles depends on the game and plan.
- Check connection stability and latency. If play is delayed or the image fluctuates, move closer to the router and pause bandwidth-heavy activity on other devices. Microsoft recommends these steps in its cloud-gaming troubleshooting guidance.
- Try a wired connection if the device supports Ethernet. Microsoft says Ethernet is generally more consistent than Wi-Fi and can reduce interruptions. This is an optional troubleshooting step for a supported Xbox Cloud Gaming device with an Ethernet port, not a way to enable the service on PS5.
- If using Wi-Fi, try 5 GHz. Xbox recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Its current guidance gives 10 Mbps as a general minimum download speed and says some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality; it specifies 20 Mbps for best performance on consoles, PCs, and tablets. These are Xbox’s published guidelines, not guarantees of low latency or a sharp image. Details are on the Xbox Cloud Gaming page.
- Use Clarity Boost only in its supported context. Microsoft describes Clarity Boost as client-side visual scaling for Xbox Cloud Gaming in Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and 11. It may improve perceived sharpness there, but Microsoft does not describe it as a latency fix or a PS5 feature. See the Windows Experience Blog.
Which service should you use on PS5?
Choose based on the games and platform you want to access. Xbox Cloud Gaming is for Xbox games on devices Xbox lists as supported. PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming is Sony’s option for select PlayStation games on PS5 and Portal. Their requirements and bandwidth recommendations are separate, so do not use one service’s figures to judge the other.
