A one- or two-minute difference between prayer time apps can come from different calculation settings, local adjustments, or location data. It does not, by itself, show that either app is wrong. Compare the apps’ Fajr and Isha methods, Asr rule, coordinates, and per-prayer offsets; for worship, use the timetable or method followed by your local mosque or trusted religious authority.
Start by comparing the calculation method
Prayer-time apps use astronomical calculations, but a selected preset can apply different solar angles for Fajr and Isha. Those differences can shift the displayed times. The Fiqh Council of North America lists these examples:

| Method | Fajr angle | Isha angle |
|---|---|---|
| Muslim World League (MWL) | 18° | 17° |
| Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) | 15° | 15° |
| Egyptian General Authority of Survey | 19.5° | 17.5° |
| Singapore MUIS | 20° | 18° |
These are named settings, not a universal ranking of accuracy. In a location-specific illustration, the council shows Fajr at 4:01 a.m. using a 20° angle and 4:49 a.m. using 12° in Anaheim, California; that example should not be treated as a prediction for other places or dates. See the Fiqh Council of North America’s explanation of twilight-angle methods.
Look for local minute adjustments
An app may apply a manual offset to align a calculated time with local authority practice. AlAdhan’s documentation describes 1–5 minute differences in its UAE example between calculation results and adjusted authority times. This is an example, not a universal measured rate. Its API also allows per-prayer adjustments, so changing one prayer’s offset need not change another’s. Check the app’s settings for labels such as “adjustment,” “offset,” or “correction,” and inspect each prayer separately. AlAdhan’s calculation-method documentation explains its approach.

Verify the location each app is using
Confirm that both apps use the same city or coordinates. Location is an input to the astronomical calculation, so different coordinates can change the result. The size of that effect cannot be diagnosed without knowing the date and locations the apps actually used. If one app is using a saved city and another is using device location, their results may differ even when their named calculation presets match.
Check Asr as a separate setting
Asr can differ by more than a minute or two when apps use different shadow-length rules. The Fiqh Council chart distinguishes a rule based on an object’s shadow reaching its length, excluding the noon shadow, from the rule associated with Imam Abu Hanifah, in which it reaches twice its length. This is separate from the Fajr and Isha twilight-angle settings. The council summarizes prayer-start definitions in its prayer-start chart.

Account for high-latitude adjustments
At high latitudes, twilight may persist through the night or may not occur at the expected time. Calculation systems can handle these cases using different adjustment rules, so compare the high-latitude setting if the apps disagree there. The effect depends on the location, date, and rule selected; the available sources do not establish one universal setting for every app or community. For a scholarly overview of astronomical calculations and related issues, see Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia’s June 2026 article.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUse the local timetable that matches your community
If your mosque or a trusted local authority publishes a timetable, an app configured to follow that authority may be the closest match to your community’s practice. Local schedules can incorporate regional conventions or adjustments that an app’s default calculation does not. For example, DuaLab describes Malaysia’s JAKIM zone timetables and minute-level differences from independent calculations; that example is specific to Malaysia, not a rule for other countries. See DuaLab’s guide to prayer-time methods.

A quick comparison checklist
To identify why two particular apps differ, record the same details in each:
- Date and city or coordinates
- Calculation preset, including Fajr and Isha angles or any fixed Isha interval
- Asr shadow rule
- High-latitude adjustment rule, if relevant
- Manual offset for each prayer
- Whether the app uses a published local timetable
Without the exact apps and these settings, a specific one- or two-minute discrepancy cannot be attributed to one cause.
