Those parts add to a television maker’s bill of materials (BOM); manufacturers may absorb the extra cost, change product configurations, or consider repricing. What shoppers pay also depends on panels, product tier, inventory, launch timing, competition, and promotions.
How component costs can reach TV prices
- Memory gets more expensive. TVs use DRAM and Flash NAND eMMC. If supply tightens while demand rises, manufacturers can face higher prices for those components.
- Components raise the bill of materials. The BOM is the cost of the parts used to make a product. Memory, processors, and the board that carries processing components contribute to that total.
- Higher costs create a choice for manufacturers. A company can accept lower margins, consider raising prices, adjust a product’s specification, or emphasize other models. A cost increase alone does not show which response a manufacturer will choose.
- Retail prices reflect more than factory costs. Retailers’ inventory, competition, model launches, and discounts can move the actual selling price differently from a manufacturer’s input costs or suggested price.
TrendForce said demand from high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and server applications was squeezing TV-memory supply. Its January 2026 analysis also cited higher display-panel and precious-metal costs, and described retail increases for new models as increasingly likely—not certain for every model. What the reported cost figures show
The figures below describe estimates for particular periods or configurations. They are not a price quote for a specific television and should not be read as universal shares.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Measure | Reported figure | Scope and source |
|---|---|---|
| DRAM share of TV BOM | 2.5–3% before the recent rise; 6–7% amid the surge | TrendForce estimate reported in 2026; not a retail-price increase or a figure for every TV. TrendForce |
| Display panels’ share of TV manufacturing cost | About 40–50% | TrendForce estimate reported in 2026. This is a different measure from DRAM’s share of BOM. TrendForce |
| Processing-board share of BOM | 31% for a specified 55-inch UHD Google smart TV; 20% for a specified 75-inch UHD smart TV; 37% for a specified 32-inch HD smart TV | Omdia figures for the specified configurations in Q2 2026. They vary by size and configuration and are not universal ratios. Omdia |
| TV memory prices | Expected to be twice first-half 2025 levels from the second half of 2025 | Omdia’s 2025 analysis covered DRAM and Flash NAND eMMC; this is an expectation from that analysis, not a current quote. Omdia |
The board figures help explain why one TV’s cost structure cannot be inferred from another’s. A 32-inch HD set, a 55-inch UHD model, and a 75-inch UHD model differ in size and configuration; the shares reported for those specific examples should not be generalized to all sets. Nor should the DRAM share of BOM be compared as though it were the same measure as the panel share of overall manufacturing cost.

Why processing-board costs matter—and vary
The processing board brings together components that handle functions such as image processing and smart-TV operation. Its cost share can be significant, but the share depends on the television’s configuration and on what costs are included in the calculation. Omdia’s Q2 2026 examples show different shares across three specified sets, rather than a single industry-wide percentage.
In an October 3, 2026 report, TechRadar relayed Omdia figures describing processing boards as 45–50% of BOM in some smaller models in Q3 2026, and said board costs had become comparable to or exceeded panel costs in some smaller sets. That is secondary reporting of model-specific estimates, not a general rule for televisions. TechRadar’s October 2026 report

Why a higher component bill does not guarantee a higher shelf price
A manufacturer’s BOM is only one part of the route to a shopper’s price. A company might absorb some of the increase rather than pass it on, and retailers can discount models to clear stock or compete for customers. The sources reviewed do not establish a general percentage by which component-cost increases pass through to consumer TV prices.
Omdia’s May 2026 reporting found selected Walmart and Amazon TV promotions in Q2 2026 in a title-level range of 30–50%. Those were promotional observations, not evidence that all televisions became cheaper by that amount. The reporting also included model and price examples; for Walmart listings, the comparison used a stated 90-day median price paid. Omdia’s Q2 2026 cost, price, and promotion analysis

Executive comments reported by Tom’s Guide show the distinction between cost pressure and a confirmed price change. At CES 2026, Samsung President and Head of Global Marketing Wonjin Lee said the company might have to consider repricing products; he did not announce a specific increase. Hisense Head of Corporate Communications & Public Relations Kenneth Hong said memory was putting pressure on the supply chain and that the company was strengthening supplier collaboration. Hong also said the RAM issue had not materially affected delivery plans at that time. These statements describe supply-chain concerns, not a guaranteed retail-price path. How to compare TVs while costs are changing
- Compare like with like. Match screen size, resolution, operating system, memory and storage configuration, and product tier. A cost ratio from a small HD set does not establish the cost structure of a large premium TV.
- Compare actual selling prices. Check the current model against a comparable prior-year model, and distinguish a launch price from the price available at the retailer.
- Check the discount’s reference point. A promotion means little without knowing the comparison price and period; Omdia’s Walmart examples, for instance, used a 90-day median price paid.
- Separate estimates from retail evidence. A BOM estimate or memory-price forecast signals pressure on manufacturers; it does not prove that a particular TV’s shelf price has risen by the same amount.
Where pressure may be more noticeable
TrendForce said smaller brands may face a heavier burden because of their scale and resources. That is an analyst’s assessment, not a basis for assuming every smaller brand will raise prices or that larger brands will avoid doing so. Likewise, the reported board-versus-panel comparison applies to some smaller models, not every screen size or price tier.
