If HiLight is not lighting up on a Pixel 11 Pro, first check whether it is enabled for the specific event you expect. Favorite-contact call alerts also require a configured favorite and a supported calling app; flash notifications suppress HiLight for incoming calls. Google documents HiLight for Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold.
First identify which HiLight cue is missing
HiLight is designed to give color-coded light cues for certain events without requiring you to look at the screen. On supported Pixel 11 models, Google describes cues while speaking with Gemini and alerts for incoming calls from favorite contacts. These are separate options, so a missing call light does not necessarily mean Gemini cues are disabled, or vice versa. Google’s description is in its August 13, 2026 product announcement.

Check the HiLight switches
- Open Settings > System > HiLight.
- Make sure Use HiLight is on.
- Turn on the option for the event that is not working: Speaking with Gemini or Calls from favorites.
Google’s HiLight setup and troubleshooting guidance lists these controls.

If favorite-contact call alerts are missing
- Verify the contact is a favorite. The call feature applies to favorite contacts, not all incoming callers.
- Update Contacts. Google’s setup guidance says the Contacts app should be on its latest version.
- Use a supported calling app. Google specifies Phone by Google and WhatsApp for favorite-contact call alerts.
- Check flash notifications. Google says enabled flash notifications prevent HiLight from displaying for incoming calls. This documented conflict concerns calls; it does not explain a missing Gemini cue.
Review the active Mode’s call settings
HiLight glows by default when Flip to Shhh, Bedtime, or Do Not Disturb is enabled, but the Calls setting for a Mode can change that behavior. To inspect it, open Settings > Modes, choose the relevant Mode, then open People > Calls.

Google says choosing None disables HiLight for calls in that Mode. It also turns off ring or vibration call notifications while that Mode is active, so consider that trade-off before changing the setting.
Try general Pixel software troubleshooting
If the HiLight settings, caller eligibility, app, flash-notification setting, and Mode configuration look correct, try Google’s general Pixel software checks. These are not published as HiLight-specific diagnostics, but they can help identify a temporary software problem or an app conflict.

- Restart the phone.
- Update apps: open the Play Store and install available updates, including updates for Contacts, Phone by Google, or WhatsApp if you use them.
- Check for a system update: open Settings > System > System update.
- Test in Safe Mode. If HiLight works there, a downloaded app may be involved. Google’s general Pixel help explains the available troubleshooting and support routes at Get help with your Pixel phone.
When to contact Google support
If the light remains dark after the relevant settings and general software checks, contact Google support for device-specific assessment or repair guidance. Google’s HiLight instructions do not provide a hardware self-test, a component-replacement procedure, or a specific firmware fix for a persistently dark light. The available guidance therefore cannot establish from the symptom alone whether the cause is hardware or software. Do not open the phone or attempt a component replacement based on these instructions.
