Android Battery Saver may be restricting Streamlabs Mobile’s background activity, particularly if a stream stops after you switch apps or turn off the screen. That is a plausible cause, not a confirmed explanation for every phone: Android’s restrictions and menu labels vary by manufacturer and version, and network, heat, app, or platform problems can also interrupt a stream.
How to check whether Battery Saver is involved
- Run a comparison with Battery Saver off. During a test stream, turn Battery Saver off and see whether the connection stays up. If it does, a battery or background restriction is a clue—not proof that it is the only cause. Android describes how background restrictions can limit app execution: Android background optimization.
- Review Streamlabs’ app battery settings. In your phone’s settings, find the battery or app battery controls for Streamlabs and, if available, allow background use or select an unrestricted option. There is no universal tap path: names and behavior differ across Android releases and manufacturers.
- Compare foreground and screen-off behavior. Test with Streamlabs open and the screen on, then compare with the screen off or the app in the background. Note when the stream stops. This is a way to narrow down the circumstances; it is not a device test or guaranteed fix.
- Prepare the phone for streaming. Streamlabs advises starting with a fully charged phone, closing other apps, and keeping a charger nearby; its guide also says a power bank can provide additional battery. These steps help with power preparation, but do not change Android’s background restrictions. See Streamlabs’ mobile streaming guide.
Why Android settings can affect a stream
Android’s background-optimization guidance explains that an app in a restricted state may be prevented from running in the background. Manufacturers determine some details of those restrictions, so the same setting may not produce identical behavior on every phone.

Two Android mechanisms are easy to conflate. A foreground service signals that an app is doing work the user can perceive; it does not, by itself, keep the CPU awake when the screen turns off. A partial wake lock is a separate mechanism for keeping the CPU running. Android explains this distinction in its March 2026 guidance on wake-lock use. The available information does not establish which mechanisms Streamlabs Mobile uses in a particular case, so neither should be treated as the confirmed cause of a dropout.

If the stream still stops
- It stops only after the screen turns off or Streamlabs is backgrounded: Recheck the app’s background battery allowance, if available, and repeat the test with the app in the foreground. The pattern points toward background behavior but does not exclude other causes.
- It also stops with Battery Saver off and Streamlabs in the foreground: Battery Saver is less likely to be the only explanation. Check whether the network is stable, the phone is overheating, or another app or platform issue coincides with the interruption.
- A charger or power bank does not change the result: That is consistent with a restriction problem: extra power does not itself permit background execution.
- You need help diagnosing a persistent failure: Contact Streamlabs support with the phone make and model, Android version, Streamlabs app version, whether the screen was off or the app was backgrounded, and the exact Battery Saver and app battery settings.
