The Samsung laptop identified as XE940XSA appeared on Geekbench with Android 17, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite, 12 CPU cores, Adreno X1-85 graphics and 16GB of memory. Those details are compatible with Google’s new Googlebook category, but they do not prove Googlebook software, certification or branding. The listing fits Samsung’s separately reported Android Galaxy Book plan at least as well, so the device’s final identity remains unconfirmed.
What the Geekbench listing actually shows
SamMobile reported on October 2, 2026, that model XE940XSA was tested with Android 17 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite platform, codenamed Hamoa. The listing identified a 12-core processor, Adreno X1-85 graphics and 16GB of RAM. Its reported results were 2,513 in single-core testing and 15,214 in multi-core testing.

Chrome Unboxed described the same listing and matched the hardware to the Snapdragon X Googlebook reference profile: Snapdragon X Elite X1E-80-100, 12 cores, Adreno X1-85 and 16GB of RAM. A Geekbench entry is an observation of a test system, not proof of a retail configuration. It also does not establish the final product name, user interface, Google certification or launch status.
Why Android 17 does not prove Googlebook
Googlebook is a platform category, not simply a laptop that reports Android as its operating system. In its 2026 announcement, Google said it was “bringing together the best of Android, which comes with powerful apps on Google Play and a modern OS that’s designed for Intelligence, and ChromeOS, which comes with the world’s most popular browser.”

Google describes Googlebook hardware as a laptop experience built around Gemini, Android-device integration and premium hardware. The announced features include Magic Pointer, prompted widgets, access to phone apps and phone-file Quick Access. Google’s description concerns the desktop shell, services and partner requirements as much as the underlying Android technology.
An engineering build of Googlebook could therefore appear in Geekbench simply as Android 17. The same label could also describe Samsung’s own Android laptop build. Without evidence of Google’s desktop experience, certification or commercial branding, Android 17 alone cannot distinguish the two.
Why Samsung’s own Android Galaxy Book plan is a strong alternative
On April 30, 2026, 9to5Google summarized a SamMobile report that Samsung was developing Galaxy Book laptops based on Android 17 and One UI 9. The reported roadmap included low-end, mid-range and flagship tiers, Galaxy AI features and an improved DeX experience. It also said Samsung would continue offering Windows laptops.

That reported plan predates the Geekbench sighting and explains the most distinctive clues in it: a Samsung model number, Android 17 and laptop-class Snapdragon X Elite hardware. One UI 9 and DeX would let Samsung control the interface and its Galaxy-device integrations independently of Google’s Googlebook partner program.
The report remains unconfirmed by Samsung. It is evidence of a reported roadmap, not an announcement that XE940XSA is a shipping Galaxy Book.
Googlebook and Samsung Android Galaxy Book: what can be inferred
| Question | Googlebook interpretation | Samsung Android Galaxy Book interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Software shell | Google’s Android-and-ChromeOS-derived laptop experience, with Gemini and features such as Magic Pointer. | Samsung’s reported One UI 9 interface with Galaxy AI and an improved DeX desktop experience. |
| Platform relationship | A Google-defined category delivered through launch partners. | Samsung’s own Galaxy Book roadmap, separate from Google’s partner branding. |
| Hardware clues | Snapdragon X Elite X1E-80-100, 12 cores, Adreno X1-85 and 16GB of RAM are compatible. | The same hardware is compatible; these specifications do not identify the software owner. |
| Evidence for this specific machine | One Geekbench listing; no confirmed Googlebook retail model, FCC filing or official announcement identifying XE940XSA. | One Geekbench listing plus an earlier report about Samsung Android 17 Galaxy Books; Samsung has not confirmed XE940XSA. |
| Known partners or current line | Google names Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo as its first hardware partners. | Samsung is absent from Google’s announced first-partner list. Samsung’s current Galaxy Book6 series is Windows-based. |
| Commercial status | Googlebook is an announced category, but this Samsung model is not confirmed as part of it. | XE940XSA is an unannounced test device, not a product established as available to buy. |
What Samsung’s model number tells us—and what it does not
XE940XSA is the identifier attached to the Geekbench result and is consistent with a Samsung laptop-class device. It is not a public retail name such as Galaxy Book6, and the listing does not show whether Samsung would market the machine under the Galaxy Book brand.

Nor does the model number reveal whether Samsung used stock Google software, a One UI build, a Googlebook-certified image or an internal engineering configuration. Retail model numbers, regulatory filings and an official product announcement would be needed to settle those questions.

How the evidence should be weighed
The Googlebook case
- The processor, core count, graphics and memory match the Snapdragon X Googlebook reference profile described by Chrome Unboxed.
- Googlebook uses Android technology, so Android 17 in a benchmark is technically plausible.
- The hardware could be an undisclosed partner prototype rather than a finished retail device.
The Samsung-specific case
- The benchmark identifies a Samsung model, while Samsung had already been reported to be preparing Android 17 Galaxy Books.
- One UI 9, Galaxy AI and DeX provide a coherent explanation for an Android laptop that is not Googlebook-branded.
- Samsung is not among Google’s five publicly named first Googlebook partners: Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo.
On the available evidence, the Samsung-specific explanation is at least as strong as the Googlebook explanation. The wording “likely isn’t” is justified because the clues point toward Samsung’s own roadmap, but a definitive “isn’t” would exceed what the listing proves.

There is no confirmed XE940XSA product to purchase, no announced launch date and no established retail specification beyond the benchmarked test system. Samsung’s established Galaxy Book6 family remains Windows-based according to 9to5Google’s coverage, so this leak should be treated as a possible new Android branch rather than a description of the normal current Galaxy Book configuration.

Buyers should wait for Samsung to specify the interface, app compatibility, update policy, keyboard and display configurations, pricing and regional availability. They should also look for a retail model number or regulatory filing before treating the benchmark as evidence of a shipping laptop.
What would confirm the identity?
- Samsung’s announcement: confirmation that XE940XSA is a Galaxy Book, along with the One UI version and DeX behavior.
- Google’s confirmation: a statement naming Samsung as a Googlebook partner or identifying the machine as certified Googlebook hardware.
- Regulatory evidence: an FCC or equivalent filing tying XE940XSA to a commercial device.
- Retail documentation: a final model name, specifications, software description and availability in a specific market.
- Independent software evidence: photographs or hands-on reporting showing Googlebook features, One UI 9 or another identifiable desktop shell.
Bottom line on XE940XSA
XE940XSA is best described today as a leaked Samsung laptop-class test device running Android 17 on Snapdragon X Elite hardware with 16GB of RAM. Its specifications make a Googlebook connection possible, but Android 17 is not proof of Googlebook OS. Samsung’s earlier reported One UI 9 and DeX Galaxy Book plan offers an equally plausible—and arguably more direct—explanation. Until Samsung or Google confirms the software and platform relationship, the device’s final branding remains unresolved.
