Galaxy SmartTag3’s most consequential change is that Samsung says it supports core finding and location sharing on both Galaxy and iOS devices. That makes it a more plausible choice for households mixing Samsung phones and iPhones—but it does not mean SmartTag3 uses Apple’s Find My network, and there is no independent head-to-head evidence showing it outperforms AirTag.
What changed with Galaxy SmartTag3?
Samsung announced Galaxy SmartTag3 on October 1, 2026, describing a smaller, lighter tracker with longer-range nearby finding, quicker Galaxy Find Network updates and added alerts. The standout change for a mixed-device household is the company’s claim that Galaxy and iOS users can find and share tag locations. Samsung has not established in its announcement that the tag joins Apple’s Find My network. Samsung’s Korean announcement and its global announcement describe the product and planned features.

iPhone compatibility is not the same as Find My compatibility
Cross-platform support can make it easier for an iPhone user to participate in finding or sharing a SmartTag3 location, according to Samsung. It should not be read as access to Apple’s network of Find My devices. That distinction matters: compatibility with a phone’s core functions does not by itself establish which crowdsourced network can report a lost tag or how widely that network can detect it.
Does SmartTag3 beat Apple AirTag?
Not on the evidence available. Samsung’s announcement supports a narrower argument: SmartTag3 may suit mixed Galaxy-and-iPhone households better than a tracker limited to one phone ecosystem. The available sources do not provide controlled comparisons of SmartTag3 and AirTag for location speed, coverage, precision, privacy, reliability or anti-stalking safeguards. Calling it a proven performance winner would go beyond what has been established.
#1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
For a real comparison, buyers should check how each product is set up and shared, which nearby devices can report it, how precision finding depends on compatible phones and region, and what privacy alerts and controls apply. Samsung’s cross-platform claim is relevant, but it does not answer those questions on its own.
How finding works, and what the 60 m figure means
Samsung Canada lists Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding with a range of up to 60 m, plus UWB for nearby finding. This is a manufacturer specification, not an independently measured usable range or proof of an advantage over AirTag. Actual detection and precision can depend on the phone, surroundings and conditions; the product listing does not establish performance in every setting. Samsung Canada’s SmartTag3 listing provides the stated specification.

Beyond a direct nearby connection, Samsung says the Galaxy Find Network can help locate a tag through participating Galaxy devices. That recovery path depends on participating devices being nearby, as well as network conditions, settings and region, so update timing and availability are not guaranteed. Samsung’s global announcement notes these dependencies.

Size, accessories and practical fit
Samsung says SmartTag3 is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than its predecessor. Those are manufacturer comparisons, not independent measurements. Samsung identifies a Silicone Case with keyring and a Loop Case as official accessories; check local availability and confirm the case is specifically made for SmartTag3 before buying. Who should consider it?
- Mixed Galaxy-and-iPhone households: Samsung’s claimed iOS support for core finding and sharing is the clearest reason to consider SmartTag3, provided its actual app and sharing features meet your needs.
- People relying on a particular lost-item network: Confirm which network participates in recovery where you live. iOS support does not establish that SmartTag3 uses Apple’s Find My network.
- Buyers choosing between SmartTag3 and AirTag on performance: Wait for independent, comparable testing if accuracy, recovery speed or coverage is decisive; Samsung’s specifications alone do not settle those comparisons.
