A smart ring can reduce how often you charge a wearable, but it cannot run indefinitely—and it is not a one-for-one replacement for a Pixel Watch or a phone-based productivity setup. Oura Ring 4 is rated for 5–8 days under Oura’s stated test conditions, while Samsung quotes up to seven days for Galaxy Ring when fully charged using its case. Both figures are manufacturer estimates, not results from a direct comparison.
How long does a smart ring battery last?
For the two rings with figures in the cited manufacturer documentation, the estimates are measured in days. Google’s Pixel Watch estimates are measured in hours, though those vary by model. The conditions differ, so the numbers should not be read as a head-to-head battery test.
| Device | Manufacturer battery estimate | Conditions and caveats |
|---|---|---|
| Oura Ring 4 | 5–8 days | Oura’s test used new, unworn rings in sizes 8–10, all-day wear, eight hours of sleep, one hour of activity heart-rate capture, and blood-oxygen sensing off. Oura says results vary; blood-oxygen sensing may reduce life by up to two days, as may activity heart-rate use above two to three hours a day. Oura Ring 4 Battery Life, updated September 21, 2026. |
| Samsung Galaxy Ring | Up to 7 days | Samsung specifies a fully charged ring using the charging case and notes that battery life depends on ring size. Samsung Support US. |
| Pixel Watch 3 | Up to 24 hours | Google’s estimate is with always-on display. Actual life varies with use, mobile network, and signal. Google Pixel Watch Help. |
| Pixel Watch 4 and 5 | Up to 30 hours (41 mm); up to 40 hours (45 mm) | Google’s estimates are with always-on display. Actual life varies with use, mobile network, and signal. Google Pixel Watch Help. |
So “never needs charging” is a useful exaggeration, not a specification. A ring still needs charging; the practical difference is that charging may move from a daily routine to an occasional one. Samsung’s case also becomes part of what you carry when traveling.
Can a smart ring replace a smartwatch?
That depends on what you mean by “replace.” The documented strengths of Oura and Galaxy Ring are health and activity tracking, not the screen-based tasks associated with a smartwatch. Oura describes sleep and readiness scores, activity tracking, stress insights, and habit logging in its app. Samsung lists energy, sleep, heart-rate, and activity tracking through Samsung Health. Neither cited product page establishes that a ring replaces general smartwatch notifications or an individual’s productivity apps.

- A ring alone is not a productivity stack. The cited documentation describes health features and limited controls, not a general-purpose replacement for phone apps or watch workflows.
Can I use a smart ring with a Pixel phone?
Do not assume every ring feature works identically across phones. Samsung says Galaxy Ring setup requires a Samsung account registered on a Galaxy smartphone. Its product page also says some Galaxy AI features require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone and account. That makes the Galaxy Ring a less straightforward choice for someone whose phone is a Pixel, especially if those ecosystem-dependent features matter.
Samsung documents a double-pinch gesture for dismissing alarms or taking photos and videos on a phone running One UI 6.1.1 or later. The gesture must be enabled, and it will not work if gestures are also enabled on a connected Galaxy Watch. Check the phone and account requirements for the exact feature you want before treating the ring as a control device.

What to check before choosing a ring
Fit is part of the decision
Samsung offers Galaxy Ring in sizes 5–15 and recommends wearing a sizing sample for more than 24 hours. The company notes that finger size can change from day to night, so a quick try-on may not be enough to judge fit.

- Train smarter with 40+ exercise modes and real-time stats on your wrist[8]; and with high-precision dual-frequency GPS, you get more accurate route tracking on runs and hikes[1]
Account and phone requirements
For Galaxy Ring, Samsung specifies a Samsung account registered on a Galaxy smartphone for setup. Some advanced features have additional compatible-phone requirements. Verify these against your own phone before purchase.
Charging habits and settings
Compare estimates cautiously: Oura’s stated battery test spells out its conditions, while Samsung notes size dependence and includes use of the charging case. Your settings and activity can affect real-world life; Oura specifically warns that blood-oxygen sensing and extended activity heart-rate use can shorten it.

Health tracking versus daily interaction
Decide whether your main goal is sleep and health insight or convenient interaction with notifications and apps. The rings described here focus on the former; their documented gesture controls are limited and, in Samsung’s case, tied to compatible devices and setup.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the evidence can—and cannot—say
Manufacturer documentation supports a narrower conclusion than the title’s premise: rings can offer multi-day battery estimates and health tracking, but they still require charging and are not shown here to replace a Pixel Watch’s broader screen-based role or a personal productivity workflow. The battery figures above are product claims with different stated conditions, not an independent test of the devices against one another.
