To limit what appears, adjust the included app results in Home settings > Search settings > Control search results. If you are using the home-screen search bar, note that Google describes that entry point as web-only; it is different from searching your apps.
Why does Pixel Search show web results?
Google’s Pixel search experience can surface information from both the phone and the web. Its documented result categories include apps, contacts, settings, Play Store apps, screenshots, Assistant actions, Pixel tips, and web results. Web results are therefore an expected part of the mixed device-search experience, not necessarily a sign that a setting is broken. Google’s Pixel phone search guide describes these categories.

First check which search surface you are using
Pixel has more than one search entry point, and they do not behave the same way. Google says tapping the search bar on the home screen starts a web-only search. If you want to find an installed app, use the phone’s app or device search rather than assuming the home-screen bar is a local-only launcher.

This distinction also matters when pressing Enter appears to open a web search instead of launching an app. A Pixel 9 user described that behavior in a Google Pixel Community thread, where a Diamond Product Expert suggested turning off Web Search. That is community guidance, not a setting Google’s official help guarantees on every Pixel. The thread was posted November 22, 2024.

Limit the apps included in device search
Google’s documented control lets you choose which apps can appear in Pixel search results. Menu wording can vary by language, Android version, Pixel Launcher version, and device configuration.
- On the home screen, touch and hold an empty area.
- Tap Home settings, then Search settings.
- Tap Control search results.
- Turn the listed apps on or off according to which results you want included.
This controls app results; it should not be confused with a universal switch that removes every kind of web result. Google’s help page documents the app controls, while the separate Web Search switch below is reported in community guidance.

Look for a Web Search switch
In the Pixel 9 community thread, Diamond Product Expert Scott37 recommended opening Home settings > Search settings and turning off Web Search. The answer concerns an app-list search that triggered a Chrome search after Enter was pressed.

If Web Search is not listed on your phone, do not assume that the setting is available on every model or software build. Use Google’s Control search results option to manage app categories, and verify that you are not entering the query into the home-screen bar, which Google documents as web-only. The official Pixel help material does not establish that all devices expose the community-reported toggle.
Do not confuse web results with Discover
Discover is a feed, not the same thing as web results in Pixel device search. Google documents separate ways to hide it: in the Google app, go to Profile > Settings > General and turn off Discover; in a browser, use the Discover setting at google.com. These controls affect the feed and are not documented as a way to remove web results from Pixel Search. Google’s Discover instructions cover those options.

Google’s Pixel-specific instructions for changing the search engine apply only in Japan and the European Economic Area (EEA). In those regions, long-press the home-screen search bar, tap Settings > Search engine, then select an available search-engine app. Google’s instructions do not establish that this Pixel-specific setting is available elsewhere.

Using another search-engine app’s widget or changing the search engine in Chrome affects that widget or browser behavior; it does not, by itself, remove web categories from Pixel device search. Similarly, Google documents AI Mode as a separate search-bar feature with its own customization control in selected locales. Turning its shortcut off is not evidence that web results are disabled.
