Amazon program data is not automatically a general-purpose product catalog. Its terms can limit how data is collected, stored, aggregated, and published—but the public policies available here do not establish why our specific pipeline rejects Amazon. That internal rationale should not be stated as fact without the team’s decision record.
What Amazon’s public terms establish—and what they do not
Amazon’s rules govern particular programs and data routes; they are not one universal restriction on every Amazon page, API, or dataset. The relevant terms depend on the program, marketplace, and intended use. They establish constraints that a pipeline must account for, but they do not prove the reason behind this pipeline’s decision.

Associates content is licensed for a defined purpose
The US Amazon Associates policy licenses Product Advertising Content for advertising and marketing an Amazon site and driving sales there. It is not a blanket grant to build a separate product catalog or research database. The policy also states: “This license does not include any downloading, copying or other use of Program Content for the benefit of any third party, or any use of data mining, robots, or similar data gathering and extraction tools.” Amazon Associates policies
This statement is specific to Associates Program Content under the US policy. It should not be generalized into a claim that all Amazon data access is prohibited, or that every use of publicly visible product information has the same terms.
Ads data has separate rules and eligibility limits
Amazon Ads Partner Network
The Ads Partner Network policy applies to approved integrations using Amazon Ads data. It restricts publication, commercial aggregation, and retention beyond the permitted integration use. Those conditions matter if a proposed source is Ads Partner data; they are not general rules for every Amazon API or data product. Amazon Ads Partner Network policies
Amazon Ads API
The Ads API has its own eligibility requirements. Among them, the policy excludes companies operating a significant ecommerce business, such as an online shopping or comparison-shopping service. This is an Ads API eligibility rule, not a statement about access to the Product Advertising API. Amazon Ads API eligibility

PA API access depends on locale and current terms
Amazon’s Product Advertising API documentation directs users to the license terms for the relevant locale. The applicable country’s terms therefore matter when evaluating an integration. The UK license also says Amazon may change or deprecate the API or Data Feed, creating a maintenance and continuity consideration for any dependent pipeline. Check the current terms for the marketplace in question rather than assuming that one locale’s license applies everywhere. PA API documentation · UK PA API license

What this means for our pipeline
The public policies show why treating Amazon program data as an unrestricted, durable catalog source could require careful review: permitted purpose, copying and extraction, aggregation and publication, eligibility, and changing access terms vary by route. They do not show which of those considerations led our team to refuse Amazon as a source, nor whether a specific program or use was assessed. A definitive account of the internal decision requires the team’s sourcing policy or decision record.
