If a YouTube stream from Gyre still says Upcoming, either the broadcast has not completed YouTube’s scheduled-stream transition or YouTube is not yet receiving the stream. Check the event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, confirm Gyre started the correct broadcast, and look for YouTube’s preview. For a scheduled encoder stream, YouTube’s documented sequence is to start sending video, wait for the preview, then click Go live.
Work out whether YouTube is receiving the stream
- Open the right broadcast. In YouTube Studio, go to Live and check the Live and Manage views. Confirm the event you are inspecting is the scheduled broadcast Gyre is meant to start. YouTube’s Live area distinguishes previous, current, and upcoming streams. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Check Gyre’s status and setup path. Verify that Gyre has started the stream and is connected to the intended YouTube channel and broadcast. Gyre describes two routes: channel authorization, where Gyre creates and binds the broadcast through the YouTube API, and manual setup, where you provide a YouTube stream key and RTMP server address. For manual setup, make sure those details belong to this event—not another stream.
- Look for YouTube’s preview. In Live Control Room, check whether a preview appears and whether stream-health information is available. No preview or incoming data points first to a start, channel, key, or connection mismatch; it does not by itself establish a particular Gyre fault.
YouTube documents the scheduled encoder workflow this way: “In Live Control Room, wait for the stream preview to show up, and then click Go live.” YouTube Help.

Complete the scheduled-stream go-live step
Starting the encoder and making a scheduled broadcast live are not always the same action. In YouTube’s documented scheduled-stream workflow, once the preview appears, click Go live in Live Control Room. YouTube describes a different start-now workflow in which starting the encoder is the live transition, so first establish which type of broadcast you created.

If you see the preview and have completed the scheduled transition but the event still appears upcoming, collect the broadcast URL or ID, Gyre’s status, YouTube’s preview and stream-health state, whether you used channel authorization or manual setup, and the time of the issue. Share those details with Gyre or YouTube support. The available documentation does not establish a reliable wait time for this exact symptom.

What YouTube’s stream statuses tell you
YouTube’s API uses stream-status terms to describe ingestion and configuration; they are not interchangeable with the viewer-facing label Upcoming. Check the setup route before changing anything
- Channel authorization: Gyre says it can create the YouTube broadcast through the API, carry over metadata, bind a stream key, start the broadcast, and report status. Check that the authorized channel and selected event are the intended ones.
- Manual setup: You provide the YouTube stream key and RTMP server address in Gyre. Recheck both against the intended event in YouTube Studio before replacing credentials or creating another broadcast.
Gyre lists channel verification, live streaming being enabled, and no recent live-stream restrictions as prerequisites for its authorization flow. See Gyre’s explanation of its YouTube API automation and setup paths. Gyre also describes its service as cloud-based, so a computer at home does not need to remain on for a Gyre stream. A new webcam, capture card, or desktop encoder is therefore not a default fix for an event that remains upcoming.
