What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A Qi2 power bank can charge a phone slowly even when both devices are working normally. The usual reasons are a mismatch between the phone and bank’s maximum rates, heat, a poor magnetic fit, a thick or metal case, intensive phone use, a battery level above 80 percent, or confusion between the bank’s wireless output and its USB-C recharge input. Check the phone’s status message and run the no-cost physical and temperature checks before replacing anything.
First, identify what is actually charging slowly
There are two different complaints: the phone is gaining battery slowly while attached to the bank, or the power bank itself takes a long time to refill through USB-C. They have different causes and fixes.

- Phone charging slowly: investigate wireless output compatibility, alignment, the case, temperature, battery level and phone activity.
- Power bank recharging slowly: investigate the bank’s USB-C input rating, the cable, the wall adapter and whether the bank allows pass-through charging.
Before changing settings, record the exact phone model, power-bank model, starting battery percentage, elapsed time and whether either device feels warm. A charge from 20 to 50 percent is not directly comparable with one from 70 to 90 percent, and different phones negotiate different rates.

The Qi2 name identifies a standard and certification profile, not a universal wattage that every phone will draw. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) says the original Qi2 launch in November 2023 used a 15-watt level. In its July 23, 2025 announcement, WPC said Qi v2.2.1 would be branded Qi2 25W. Those figures describe standard-level capabilities; they do not prove that a particular phone supports the higher rate or that a particular bank will deliver it to that phone.

WPC’s 2025 announcement said 14 devices had completed Qi2 25W certification testing during the limited initial launch, with wider testing opening to devices in the queue. That is a historical statement from that announcement, not a current count of certified products. WPC also described Qi2 25W as delivering nearly 70 percent more power than original Qi2. Treat that as WPC’s comparison of the standards, not as a guaranteed improvement for every phone-and-bank combination.
Magnetic Power Profile versus ordinary Qi
WPC’s November 15, 2023 Qi v2.0 announcement describes two profiles. The Magnetic Power Profile (MPP), based on MagSafe technology contributed by Apple to WPC, is the magnetic profile branded Qi2. The Enhanced Power Profile (EPP) does not use magnets and continues to use the existing Qi logo.
A product carrying a Qi logo therefore does not automatically have magnetic alignment or Qi2 performance. A bank can also advertise a Qi2 capability that your phone does not support. Check the exact phone model’s wireless-charging specification and the exact bank’s certified profile and rated output.
Check the phone’s charging message
On an iPhone, open Settings > Battery and inspect the Lock Screen while the phone is attached. Apple says iOS 18 and later may show a Slow Charger message when a higher-wattage charger could improve the experience. The notice is not a hardware-failure diagnosis: Apple specifically says, “This doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with your iPhone or charger.”
Apple’s iOS 26 guidance also describes estimated time to 80 percent, or to the selected charge limit, when the battery is already above 80 percent. An estimate that changes as the phone heats up or approaches its limit is expected. Android phones use different labels and controls, so consult the phone maker’s model-specific battery and wireless-charging instructions.
Run these physical checks before buying anything
1. Recenter the phone
Detach and reattach the phone so the magnetic rings are centered. A phone that is slightly offset can still show a charging icon while transferring less power or repeatedly starting and stopping. Keep the phone flat against the charging surface during the test.
2. Remove the case for one test
Apple warns that thick, metal or battery cases can contribute to slow wireless charging. Wallet cases may also leave cards or a metal plate between the coils. Remove the case and any card, grip, ring, stand or other object, then repeat the same charge test. If the bare phone is faster, use a thin case explicitly designed for the phone’s magnetic wireless-charging system.

3. Eliminate objects between the coils
Keys, coins, cards and other foreign objects can interfere with coupling and create heat. Keep the charging face clear. Do not place the bank on top of another wireless charger or on a metal surface while testing.
4. Inspect for movement
A bank hanging from the phone can shift when the phone is picked up. Test on a stable surface first. If charging is fast while stationary but slow in a pocket or bag, movement and imperfect alignment are the likely causes rather than a failed battery.
Heat is one of the most common speed limits
Wireless charging creates heat in both the phone and the bank. Apple says an iPhone may slow or pause charging when its temperature is outside the normal range, and that heat can limit wireless charging above 80 percent. Apple recommends an operating environment of 0–35°C (32–95°F) for iPhone. That range is an operating recommendation, not a promise that a particular ambient temperature produces a particular wattage.
- Move the phone and bank out of direct sunlight, a hot car or an enclosed pocket.
- Remove a heat-trapping case and place the setup on a hard, ventilated surface.
- Stop charging long enough for both devices to cool naturally. Do not put a hot battery pack in a freezer or against ice.
- Restart the test at a lower battery percentage and compare whether the phone remains cooler.
If charging pauses and resumes as the phone cools, that behavior is consistent with thermal protection. Persistent overheating, swelling, unusual odors or a damaged cable are safety reasons to stop using the bank and contact its maker.

The phone does not devote every watt it receives to the battery. Apple says intensive apps, games, camera use and high-quality video streaming can reduce wireless charging speed. Screen brightness, cellular reception and background tasks also consume energy, so the battery percentage may rise slowly even when the wireless link is operating normally.
For a clean test, lock the screen, pause games and camera recording, avoid high-quality streaming and leave the phone idle for 15–30 minutes. Disconnect wired accessories. Apple’s guidance says connected USB-C or Lightning accessories limit iPhone wireless charging to 7.5W; that is an Apple/iPhone-specific limit, not a universal Qi2 rule.
Why charging slows after 80 percent
Phone charging is deliberately managed in stages. As the battery approaches a high state of charge, the phone reduces current to control heat and battery stress. Apple documents that heat can limit wireless charging above 80 percent and that iOS can show an estimated time to 80 percent or to a selected limit.

Howeveer, it does not have China's 3C certification and cannot be carried on domestic flights within China.
- What You Get: Anker MagGo Power Bank (10K, Slim), 23.62" / 60 cm USB-C to USB-C cable, welcome guide, 24-month worry-free warranty, and lifetime support.
Do not judge a Qi2 bank by the time needed to move from 80 to 100 percent. Compare the same starting and ending percentages, preferably below 80 percent, with the same case, temperature and activity. A slower final segment is normally a battery-management behavior rather than evidence that the magnetic bank has failed.
Check compatibility and rated output
Read the specifications for both devices, not just the bank’s product name. Make a note of:
- The phone’s supported wireless profile and maximum wireless input.
- Whether the phone supports magnetic alignment or requires a compatible magnetic case.
- The bank’s certification profile and rated wireless output.
- Any manufacturer limits that apply when the bank is also powering another device.
A Qi2 25W marking on a bank does not establish that the phone accepts Qi2 25W. If the phone supports only a lower rate, the phone will negotiate that lower rate. Conversely, a phone that can accept a higher rate cannot exceed the bank’s certified output. The lowest supported limit, plus temperature and battery-management controls, determines the result.
Do not confuse Qi2, MagSafe and Qi logos
Qi2’s MPP is the magnetic profile; EPP uses the non-magnetic Qi logo. “MagSafe battery pack” is a common reader phrase for a magnetic accessory, but compatibility depends on the phone generation and the accessory’s certification. A magnetic attachment by itself is not proof of Qi2 25W support.
If the power bank itself recharges slowly
When the bank’s own battery is the slow part, inspect its input path. Output and input ratings are separate: a bank can advertise a high wireless output while accepting a much lower USB-C input.
- Find the bank’s stated USB-C input wattage in its manual or current manufacturer specification.
- Use the recommended USB-C cable and a wall adapter that can provide at least that input under the bank’s stated protocol.
- Check both connectors for lint, looseness or damage.
- Do not assume a cable or adapter’s maximum rating is the bank’s accepted input; the bank controls the negotiated rate.
- Allow the bank to cool and recharge it without simultaneously running a phone, if its instructions warn that pass-through use reduces input speed.
Apple’s recommendation to use USB-C Power Delivery concerns faster wired iPhone charging. It is not a guarantee that every power bank accepts the same input protocol or wattage. Use the bank maker’s specified input requirements.

- Define the symptom. Decide whether the phone or the bank is slow, and record the models, battery percentages, elapsed time and temperature.
- Read the phone status. On iPhone, check Settings > Battery and the Lock Screen for Slow Charger or an estimated time. On Android, use the equivalent battery screen and the phone maker’s guidance.
- Perform a case-free alignment test. Remove thick, metal, battery and wallet cases, clear the charging surface and center the phone.
- Cool the setup. Avoid sunlight and hot spaces; let the phone and bank return to a comfortable temperature.
- Stop competing activity. Lock the screen, stop gaming, camera recording and high-quality streaming, and disconnect wired accessories.
- Repeat at a comparable battery level. Compare two tests that start and end at similar percentages rather than comparing unrelated charge sessions.
- Verify ratings. Match the exact phone’s wireless support to the bank’s certified profile and rated output. Check whether another device is sharing the bank’s power.
- For a slow bank recharge, test the input path. Use the specified USB-C cable and adapter and confirm the bank’s input rating.
Symptoms and the most likely explanation
| What you observe | Likely explanation | Best next check |
|---|---|---|
| Slow Charger appears on an iPhone | The phone sees a lower-wattage option; Apple says the message does not mean the phone or charger is faulty. | Check the phone and bank ratings, then test alignment and temperature. |
| Charging is fast without the case | The case, cards or a metal insert is increasing distance or interference. | Use a thin compatible case and keep objects away from the coils. |
| Charging slows when the phone is hot | Thermal management is reducing or pausing charging. | Move to a cooler, ventilated location and stop demanding apps. |
| The percentage barely rises during a game or camera session | Phone power consumption is offsetting wireless input. | Lock the screen and retest while idle. |
| Only the last 20 percent takes a long time | High-state-of-charge and heat controls reduce the rate. | Compare charging below 80 percent and review the selected charge limit. |
| The phone charges normally but the bank takes hours to refill | The bank’s USB-C input, cable or adapter is limiting recharge. | Check the bank’s input specification and use the recommended power source. |
| Charging starts and stops when moved | Magnetic alignment is being lost. | Test on a flat surface and inspect the fit of the phone or case. |
When a replacement is justified
Replace or return a bank only after the controlled checks show that the same phone remains slow without a case, while cool, centered and idle, and the phone and bank support compatible profiles. Also look for physical damage, a loose USB-C port, repeated overheating or a battery that discharges unusually quickly.
If you do compare replacement models, verify every item against the current manufacturer page:
| Comparison point | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Certified profile and rated wireless output | Shows what the bank is designed to deliver, subject to the phone’s limit. |
| Support for the reader’s exact phone | Prevents paying for a profile the phone cannot use. |
| USB-C input rating and recharge-time claim | Determines how quickly the bank itself can refill; output wattage is not input wattage. |
| Capacity and size | A larger capacity can add weight and may take longer to recharge. |
| Heat behavior, stand and built-in cable | Affects alignment, ventilation and daily convenience. |
| Warranty and safety certifications | Provides recourse and evidence that the product passed the maker’s stated safety process. |
Do not buy a higher-rated bank solely because the Qi2 number is larger. First establish that the phone supports the advertised profile and that your current slowdown is not caused by heat, a case or phone activity.
What Qi2 can and cannot tell you
Qi2’s magnetic attachment is intended to make alignment easier. In WPC’s 2023 announcement, executive director Paul Struhsaker said magnetic attachment means consumers will not have to adjust positioning to ensure perfect alignment. That design benefit reduces one common failure mode, but it cannot override a phone’s charging limit, thermal protection or a poorly fitting case.
The standards also evolve. WPC’s 2025 Qi2 25W announcement is evidence of the newer certification level and its claimed comparison with original Qi2; it is not a catalog of every phone or bank currently available. Confirm model-level support before interpreting a logo as a promised real-world rate.
Bottom line for a slow Qi2 power bank
Start with the phone’s message, then test a centered bare phone in a cool place with demanding apps and wired accessories disconnected. Check whether the battery is already above 80 percent, verify that the exact phone and bank support the same wireless profile, and inspect the bank’s separate USB-C input rating if the bank itself is slow to refill. Most slow-charge reports are explained by negotiation, heat, alignment, battery-management limits or phone activity; only consider replacement after those causes have been ruled out.
