If Logitech Capture’s preview lags or the app freezes when background blur is on, first find out which app is doing the blur. Logitech documents Chroma Key in Capture for background removal, but identifies XSplit VCam as a separate source that can remove or blur a background. Then test Capture without optional effects, lower the recording load, and check the camera’s USB connection only if the feed itself is unstable.
Does Logitech Capture have background blur?
Capture includes Chroma Key for removing a background; that is not the same as a built-in blur control. Logitech’s product documentation says you can connect XSplit VCam as a source to remove or blur the background. If blur is enabled, check which app supplies it before attributing all CPU use to Capture. Logitech Capture product page

Capture also records multiple sources, supports scene layouts, and offers resolution and frame-rate controls. Recording, compositing sources, and effects can therefore be separate contributors to a slow preview or recording. Logitech does not publish a CPU percentage for Capture or a measured CPU overhead for blur, so there is no reliable percentage threshold or guaranteed reduction to cite.

Change one variable at a time and compare CPU use and smoothness in the same scene. This helps distinguish Capture’s recording workload, a separate blur app, and a camera-feed problem.

- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- HD lighting adjustment and autofocus: The Logitech webcam automatically fine-tunes the lighting, producing bright, razor-sharp images even in low-light settings. This makes it a great webcam for streaming and an ideal web camera for laptop use
- Advanced capture software: Easily create and share video content with this Logitech camera that is suitable for use as a desktop computer camera or a monitor webcam
- Stereo audio with dual mics: Capture natural sound during calls and recorded videos with this 1080p webcam, great as a video conference camera or a computer webcam
- Full HD 1080p video calling and recording at 30 fps. You'll make a strong impression with this PC webcam that features crisp, clearly detailed, and vibrantly colored video
- Establish a clean baseline. Close other camera, meeting, and streaming apps. In Capture, turn off blur at its source and disable Chroma Key, borders, and other optional effects. Check whether the preview and recording still lag.
- Reduce recording demand. Lower both resolution and frame rate, then compare at 720p before returning to 1080p or 4K. Logitech warns that high resolution combined with borders and Chroma Key may slow or freeze Capture on low-performance systems. It also says 1080p and 4K inherently add delay. These are qualitative warnings, not measurements of how much a setting will change CPU use. Logitech’s known limitations for Capture
- Test the blur provider separately. If XSplit VCam or another application supplies blur, switch off its blur while leaving the rest of the setup unchanged. Compare CPU use and preview or recording smoothness. If performance improves, the effect provider is implicated; if not, continue testing Capture and the camera path.
- Check requirements and the camera connection. Confirm the webcam model and computer meet Logitech’s published requirements. If the camera feed itself stutters or drops, verify the camera is connected to an appropriate direct USB port. A USB change can address a feed or connection issue; it does not reduce the computational work of blur.
- Restore features individually. Turn options back on one at a time, checking performance after each change. Note which setting or combination brings the problem back.
- Record details before seeking support. Note the webcam model, operating system, Capture version, resolution and frame rate, blur provider, USB connection, and the process that shows high CPU use. Those details help separate an effect-provider issue from Capture’s recording load or a camera-feed fault.
Which Capture settings and systems matter?
Logitech’s published Windows recording requirements vary by resolution. They are minimum specifications, not a promise that effects will run smoothly. The listed operating systems are Windows 10 and macOS 10.14, 10.15, and 11; the macOS 11 Big Sur listing is for Intel Macs with Capture 2.06 or later. Logitech lists these supported webcam models: C920 HD Pro, C920s HD Pro, 1080P Pro Stream, C922 Pro Stream, C922X Pro Stream, C930e, StreamCam, StreamCam Plus, BRIO 4K Pro, and BRIO Stream. Check Logitech’s requirements page for its listed minimum Apple computer generations and full compatibility details. Logitech Capture system requirements
| Windows recording resolution | Processor | Graphics | Memory |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p | 6th-generation Intel Core i5 or later | Dedicated graphics or integrated Intel HD Graphics 510 or higher | 8 GB RAM |
| 1080p | 7th-generation Intel Core i5 or later | Intel dedicated graphics or integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 or higher | 8 GB RAM |
For StreamCam, Logitech specifies a direct USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C connection or higher. For BRIO 4K Pro and BRIO Stream, it specifies a direct USB 3.x connection; its known-limitations page also identifies USB 3.0 for BRIO 4K and other optimal features. If the camera feed is unreliable, trying a compatible direct port is relevant. It is not a fix for high CPU use caused by recording or blur. System requirements · Known limitations

Why can recording use CPU even when blur is off?
Capture records MP4 video using H.264. Logitech says Capture automatically selects an encoder according to the system configuration: Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC, or Cisco OpenH264. The available encoder depends on the CPU and GPU; Logitech does not describe a manual encoder toggle or guarantee a particular CPU reduction for any one choice. Logitech Capture encoder information

When should you test without Capture?
If you only need an ordinary webcam call, try the webcam in the meeting app without Capture. Logitech says its webcams are UVC devices and that driver support is built into Windows 10 and macOS. This can help establish whether the camera works outside Capture, but you will not keep Capture’s scenes, controls, or effects. Logitech Capture system requirements
