Chrome on Android does not guarantee that every website will offer a scrolling screenshot. On Android 12 and later, the system’s Capture more control is available for most—but not all—scrollable screens. If it is missing in Chrome, check whether it appears in another scrollable app and whether the problem affects every site or just one before assuming there is a universal Chrome bug.
How Android scrolling screenshots are supposed to work
Google documents scrolling screenshots for Android 12 and later on most screens that allow scrolling. The capture control is part of Android’s screenshot flow rather than a button that must appear inside every website. To try it, press Power + Volume down, then tap Capture more if it appears. Use the crop guides to choose how much of the screen to include. Google’s Android screenshot instructions note that steps can differ by device; if your phone’s controls differ, follow the manufacturer’s support instructions.

Why the option may be missing in Chrome
Android supports capture on most scrollable screens, not every screen or page. Chrome’s integration with the system screenshot flow has also varied across software releases. In December 2021, 9to5Google reported that Chrome initially lacked Android 12 scrolling screenshot support because Chrome and WebView did not use standard View-based interfaces, and that support was later rolled out with Chrome 96. Check whether the problem is Android-wide or page-specific
- Confirm your Android version. The documented system feature applies to Android 12 and later. If you use an earlier version, the workflow described here may not be available.
- Use the phone’s screenshot shortcut. Press Power + Volume down and look for Capture more in the screenshot controls. If the shortcut differs on your device, use the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Try another screen that visibly scrolls. Use a long page in another app. If Capture more appears there but not in Chrome, the issue may be limited to Chrome or the page being captured.
- Try another website in Chrome. If other sites show the control, note which page does not. A page-specific result is different from the option being absent across Chrome.
- Check for a Chrome update. Update Chrome through your device’s normal app update mechanism. Chrome’s historical rollout shows that support can depend on software versions, but updating is not a guaranteed fix for every current case.
If the control is missing everywhere, note the phone model, Android version, Chrome version, and which apps or pages you tested. Those details help distinguish a device-level problem from one limited to Chrome or a particular page.
What not to assume
- It is not evidence that Android has no scrolling screenshots. The feature is documented for Android 12 and later, with the qualification that it works on most scrollable screens.
- It is not necessarily a Chrome-wide bug. A missing control on one device or site does not establish a general defect.
- A Chrome flag is not an established fix. The available sources do not verify a current
chrome://flagssetting that restores the feature. - Chrome 96 is historical context, not a version to install. The 2021 report describes when support was rolled out; it does not say that installing that old release is a remedy now.
