What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Start by checking whether images fail on one website or several, then compare the same page in another browser. That quick split helps distinguish an Edge-specific issue from a problem with the website or your connection. Work through the checks below in order, changing one thing at a time so you can tell what affects the result.
First, find out where the problem occurs
Reload the affected page and note what is missing: every image, only some images, or images on just one website. Then open another site that normally displays images. If you can, try the affected page in a different browser too.

- One site fails, but other sites work: the affected website or the service hosting its images becomes a stronger possibility.
- Several sites fail in Edge, but work elsewhere: focus first on Edge settings, extensions, and cached files.
- Several sites fail in more than one browser: investigate the network or device as well as the sites.
A comparison is a clue, not proof: browsers can use different settings or network paths. Microsoft Support recommends trying another browser and checking for network issues as part of general Edge troubleshooting: Microsoft Edge troubleshooting.
Clear Edge’s cached images and files
Edge stores temporary files to help pages load faster. If a cached file is causing a display problem, clearing cached images and files may help. In Edge, open the browsing-data controls, choose a time range, select Cached images and files, clear the data, and reload the affected page. The exact labels may vary with the Edge version.

Test whether an extension is interfering
Ad-blocking and privacy extensions can be worth testing when images are missing only in Edge. Microsoft Q&A community responses suggest this as a troubleshooting lead; it is not a confirmed explanation for every missing image.

- Temporarily disable your extensions in Edge’s extensions controls.
- Reload the affected page and check whether the images appear.
- If they do, re-enable extensions one at a time, reloading the page after each change.
- If the problem returns after enabling a particular extension, that result points to a possible connection. Restore extensions that do not affect the page.
Check tracking prevention only if Edge reports a block
Edge can block known tracking resources before a request reaches the network. Microsoft says whether it does so depends on the resource’s compatibility impact and the user’s tracking-prevention setting. This mechanism makes tracking prevention one possible explanation for a missing resource; it does not show that a particular image was blocked.

If you are comfortable using browser diagnostics, open Edge DevTools and check the Console for tracking-prevention messages and blocked URLs. Microsoft’s documentation describes this diagnostic approach: Tracking prevention in Microsoft Edge. Investigate a setting change only when the diagnostics are relevant. If you test one, make it temporary, limit it to the affected site where possible, and restore the protection setting afterward.

Separate a website problem from a network problem
If the same site still fails in another browser while other sites display images, the website or its image host is a stronger suspect. If many unrelated sites fail across browsers, the network or device configuration becomes more likely. Neither pattern identifies a specific cause on its own.
When multiple browsers are affected, try another network if one is available. Microsoft Support also lists restarting network equipment among general network troubleshooting steps. If the issue remains specific to one website, contact its owner; if it persists broadly, continue with network troubleshooting rather than changing Edge settings at random. Microsoft’s general troubleshooting index is available at Microsoft Edge Help.

What to include when you ask for help
Useful details make it easier to narrow down a persistent problem. Before contacting the website owner or Microsoft support, note:
- The affected website and whether all images or only some are missing.
- Your Edge version and whether the same page works in another browser.
- Whether disabling extensions changed the result.
- Whether the problem changes on another network.
- Any relevant DevTools Console message or blocked URL.
For a failure isolated to one site, contact that website’s owner. For an Edge-specific problem across sites, use Edge’s Help and feedback route or Microsoft’s support resources.
