The appeal of a free, 100% client-side generator with no paywalls and no redirects is straightforward: create a code without a paid tier or a service-managed destination in the scanning path. The exact implementation and privacy practices of the generator described in this title are not established by the available product documentation, so the distinctions below explain the design trade-offs rather than claim unverified features for that tool.
What “100% client-side” means
Client-side generation means the browser creates the QR image on the user’s device rather than asking a server to generate that image. For privacy, the important follow-up is whether the payload—the URL, Wi-Fi password, contact details, or other text encoded in the QR code—stays in the browser and is not transmitted elsewhere.

That is a possible privacy benefit, not a guarantee about every part of a website. A page may load other assets, make optional network requests, or include features that send information to a server. To assess a specific generator, look for a clear privacy disclosure and inspect what its own code and network behavior establish.
OpenQR says its static QR codes are generated in the browser and that the entered content is not uploaded to its servers. Its security page describes its generator code as public and its rendering as client-side. Those are claims about OpenQR, not evidence about the unidentified generator in this title: OpenQR privacy page and OpenQR security page.

Does the QR code generator send my data to a server?
It depends on the particular service and code type. With a locally generated static code, the encoded content can remain on your device. A server-based generator, API, or added service feature may involve sending data to a provider; whether it does, and what happens to that data afterward, must be checked in that provider’s own documentation.
UseQR’s developer guidance recommends local generation for credentials and personal information, while describing its server API for public URLs. That supports a cautious rule of thumb: for a Wi-Fi password or personal contact details, prefer a workflow that keeps the payload local, and verify the provider’s data handling rather than assuming all APIs behave alike. The documentation does not establish how long any provider retains submitted data: UseQR developer documentation.

Static versus dynamic QR codes: what changes?
A static QR code encodes its destination or other payload directly in the code. A dynamic QR setup instead uses a service-managed destination: the printed code points to a service address, which can redirect a scan to the current destination. OpenQR describes its dynamic codes as storing the destination server-side so the service can redirect scans and count them. This is one project’s documented model, not a guarantee that every provider implements dynamic codes identically.

| Type | Where the destination lives | What happens after printing |
|---|---|---|
| Static | In the QR code itself | Changing the encoded destination generally means generating and distributing a new code. |
| Dynamic, as OpenQR describes it | On the service’s server, behind a redirect | The service can change the destination behind the printed code and count scans. |
The static-versus-dynamic distinction and OpenQR’s description of server-side storage are documented on its privacy page.

Can I change a QR code after I print it?
If the destination is encoded directly in a static code, the code itself does not provide a server-mediated way to change it after printing. You would normally need to make a new QR image and replace the printed copies. A dynamic code can support destination changes through the service that manages its redirect, as in OpenQR’s description, but that convenience depends on keeping that service in the scanning path.
Why do some QR codes use redirects?
A redirect layer gives a service control over the destination after a code has been printed. It can also let the service count scans. Those features can be useful when a destination may change or scan measurement is required, but the redirecting service becomes part of the user’s route from the code to the destination. A static code without a managed destination avoids that particular server-mediated edit-and-analytics mechanism; it also gives up those capabilities.

What should a useful browser-based generator offer?
“Client-side” describes where generation happens; it does not specify which payloads, styling controls, or download formats a tool supports. As one example, the OpenQR repository lists URL, text, email, phone, SMS, WhatsApp, Wi-Fi, and location payloads; styling options; and PNG, WebP, SVG, and PDF exports. These are documented OpenQR features, not confirmed capabilities of the generator in this title. The repository also describes QR codes as an open standard and identifies ISO/IEC 18004: OpenQR repository.
