Google Play can recommend games using your Play activity, content you have acquired, and information in your Google Account. You can turn off Play personalization or stop new activity being saved to Play History, but those controls do different things—and neither is a universal switch to stop all data processing.
Why is Google Play recommending games to me?
With Play personalization enabled, Google says recommendations can draw on your Play History, Play content such as items you purchased or downloaded, and information in your Google Account. Personalization may affect relevant search results, app and content recommendations, and offers. Recommendations or offers can appear in Google Play and in apps and games distributed through Play. Google’s Play personalization guidance describes these sources and uses.

Google’s developer guidance also says it may use app quality and how users respond to results for a query, and may show personalized recommendations based on information it collected, such as apps a user previously installed. That guidance does not establish that any single signal caused a particular game to appear. Google Play’s App Discovery and Ranking guidance describes these factors.
How accurate are Google Play game recommendations?
Google does not publish an accuracy percentage, test results, or a guarantee that a recommended game will suit an individual user in the guidance cited here. Relevance can vary with the account and device context available to Play. Changing personalization settings can change which information Google uses, but it does not guarantee a particular kind or quality of recommendation.

How do I turn off personalized game recommendations?
The currently documented path in the Google Play Store app is:
- Open the Play Store app and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Personalization in Play.
- Tap Personalise Play and turn the setting off.
Google says this prevents Google Account information from being used for Play personalization. Play may still tailor the experience using information such as the device, country, and installed apps. If you want a narrower adjustment rather than turning off the main setting, the same settings area offers options for device details and individual Play content where available. Google says a change can take up to 24 hours to take effect. Labels or navigation may vary as the app changes. See Google’s current settings guidance.

What Play History includes—and what turning it off changes
Play History can include searches on Google Play, apps used on the device, information apps share with Google, app detail pages viewed, and offers you interact with. App usage can include which apps were opened and how long they were used. Google says it receives developer-shared app usage only when Play History is configured to include it. Google explains the categories in its Play History help.
Turning Play History off stops new activity from being saved to the account’s Play History. It does not mean Google stops collecting or processing all Play activity: Google says data may still be processed for purposes described in its Privacy Policy, and some information may be processed temporarily for contextual experiences, debugging, or maintenance. Separate enabled features can also retain their own records.

How to review or delete Play History
In the Play Store app, open profile picture → Personalization in Play to review Play History and its controls. Google says you can delete history manually or select automatic deletion after 3, 18, or 36 months. Those are the available automatic-deletion intervals described in its guidance, not a promise that every related record disappears on the same schedule.
Deleting Play History does not remove acquired Play content needed to access purchases and downloads, data retained by other enabled features, or data disconnected from the account for service purposes. It is a control for Play History, not a single deletion control for every Google Play-related record.

Play History and a Play Games profile are separate
Play Games profile activity can support game stats and other profile features, and it is managed separately from Play History. Deleting Play History does not remove activity retained by the Play Games profile; deleting profile data or the entire profile does not delete Play History. If you want to remove both, use the separate controls for each system. Google’s Play Games instructions explain how to delete profile data or a profile.
How to check what a recommended game collects
Open the game’s Google Play listing and look for its Data safety section; tap See details to inspect the developer’s disclosures about data collection, sharing, handling, and stated purposes, which can include personalization. This information concerns the app’s own practices. It is not an audit of how Google’s store recommendation system works. Google’s Data safety help page explains how to read the section.
