A Google Maps station listing can appear without fuel prices, or show a price that no longer matches the pump. Google describes displayed prices as the last known prices and provides an update time in its underlying fuel-price data, but it does not promise one worldwide refresh schedule. A missing price does not prove the station lacks that fuel grade.
Why a Google Maps fuel price may be missing or stale
Google’s documentation treats fuel prices as data associated with a gas-station listing, with separate entries for different fuel types. The station can therefore have a Maps listing even when price information is unavailable. Google does not publish a complete list of reasons an individual station’s price might be absent or old.

When a price is shown, Google calls it the “last known fuel price” and makes its update timestamp available in the Places data model. Google says fuel information is updated regularly, but does not specify a universal maximum age or refresh interval. “Current” should not be read as a guarantee that the price was checked in real time. Data arrangements can vary by market and service. Google’s explanation of Waze business data says its sources include Waze users, Google, and other partners, with sources differing by category; Waze also cautions that it cannot guarantee third-party data is accurate or current. That does not establish that every Google Maps price comes from Waze, or that the same source is used in every country. In its Australian review, the ACCC said it could not confirm the source of fuel prices shown in Google Maps and Waze.

Check the listing before relying on a price
- Find the station. Search Google Maps for “gas stations” or for the station’s brand. Google Help identifies both as ways to find gas prices. Google Maps Help: Find gas prices
- Match the fuel grade. Open the station and compare the same grade you intend to buy. Google’s data model distinguishes regular unleaded, midgrade, premium, diesel, and other fuel types; prices for different grades are not directly comparable.
- Look for the update time. Check the displayed timestamp if the Maps interface you are using shows one. The underlying Places data model includes a timestamp, but that does not mean every Maps screen presents it in the same way.
- Check another source before making a detour. Where available, compare with a local government or regulator-backed fuel-price service. Reporting rules and station coverage vary by jurisdiction, so use a source that applies to your area.
What to do if the price is wrong
Google Help directs users to contact OPIS when gas-price data is incorrect. It does not state how quickly a correction will appear. The guidance does not establish that editing a station’s Business Profile or submitting a general Maps feedback report will update its fuel price.
Google’s reference to OPIS as the contact for incorrect prices is not proof that OPIS is the sole price source worldwide. The available public explanations do not establish one global supplier or a guaranteed repair time.

Why the answer can differ by country
United Kingdom
In an announcement dated 8 October 2026, the UK government said Fuel Finder data had been integrated into Google Maps and Waze to show nearby petrol and diesel prices. Under the UK scheme, stations have been required since February 2026 to report a changed price within 30 minutes or risk a fine. The government said Fuel Finder reflected around 99% of fuel sold on UK roads at the time of its announcement. The ACCC describes Australian fuel-price services as drawing on state and territory transparency schemes and, in some cases, crowdsourced submissions. In the Australian example it reviewed, Google Maps could note when a listed price was more than 24 hours old. The ACCC also said it could not confirm the source of prices in Google Maps and Waze.
