Why Google Calendar Events Aren’t Showing in Android Auto—and How to Fix It

Trace a missing calendar event from Google Calendar on the web to your phone and Android Auto, then use the symptom to choose the right fix.

Start by finding where the event disappears: on Google Calendar on the web, in the Calendar app on your phone, or only in Android Auto. If it is missing from the phone too, check its account, calendar visibility, and sync. If it is visible on the phone but not Android Auto, review Calendar permission and Google Calendar’s Share Google Calendar data with other apps setting. These checks narrow down the problem, but Google’s current Android Auto help does not establish a universal Calendar switch or a fix that works on every phone and car.

Find the point where the event disappears

Android Auto is only the last part of a chain: an event must belong to the expected account and calendar, be available in Google Calendar on the phone, and then be accessible to the connected app. Checking each point in order is more useful than repeating general steps such as restarting the phone, because a restart cannot fix an event saved to a different account or a calendar that is not syncing.

Where to check What the result suggests What to check next
Google Calendar on the web If the event is absent here, it may not be on the expected Google account or may not have synced to that account. Open the event in the phone app and verify its calendar and account.
Google Calendar on the phone If the event is online but missing in the app, focus on phone-side account sync, the calendar’s sync setting, and app visibility. Check sync and visibility before investigating Android Auto.
Android Auto If the event is visible in the phone app but not in the car, investigate app access to calendar data and version-specific behavior. Check Android Calendar permission and Calendar’s data-sharing setting; do not assume either guarantees display in Android Auto.

When comparing screens, confirm that each one is using the same Google account. Also note whether the event is on a primary, secondary or shared calendar, a work or school account, a device-local calendar, or generated from Gmail. Those distinctions help identify the layer to investigate; they do not, by themselves, prove what a particular Android Auto version supports.

A quick three-screen test

  1. Open calendar.google.com in a browser while signed in to the account you expect. Search for the event by title or date.
  2. Open the Google Calendar app on the phone and switch to the same account and calendar. Refresh and search for the event rather than relying only on the day view.
  3. Connect the phone to Android Auto and check the calendar-related screen or feature that normally shows appointments. Record whether the event is absent, whether all events are absent, or whether only a particular calendar is missing.

If the event is missing at the first step, Android Auto is not the starting point. If it appears on the web but not on the phone, repair synchronization. If it appears in both Calendar locations but not in the car, focus on access and compatibility. This simple split prevents you from changing settings that cannot affect the layer where the failure occurs.

Check that the event belongs to the right account and calendar

Open the event in Google Calendar on your phone and check which calendar it is assigned to. An event saved to a different account or a device-only calendar may not be available to the Google account or connected app you expect. Google notes that events on calendars not associated with the Google Account may not appear in that account’s Calendar app or on calendar.google.com.

  1. In the Calendar app, open the event rather than relying only on the day or week view.
  2. Look at the calendar name or color shown for the event and confirm that it is the calendar you expect.
  3. If you use more than one account, check which account owns that calendar. Confirm that the same account is available in the Calendar app.
  4. Compare the event with Google Calendar on the web using that account. If it is missing online, resolve the account or event-calendar mismatch before troubleshooting Android Auto.

Pay particular attention after importing a calendar, accepting an invitation, or creating an event from a different account. A work or school account can be present on the phone while the personal Google account is the one you are viewing in another screen. Likewise, a secondary or shared calendar may be unchecked or unavailable to the account currently connected to the car.

If the event is on a shared, secondary, work or school calendar, verify that it is actually included in the account and calendar view you are checking. The available official Android Auto guidance does not establish that every calendar type will appear in every Android Auto configuration, so do not treat its absence in the car as proof that the event itself is lost.

Make sure the calendar is visible—and separately check sync

A calendar can be hidden in the app even when it is otherwise available. In Google Calendar, open the menu and make sure the relevant calendar is selected or checked. Then check sync separately: seeing a calendar name in the menu, or turning on its visibility, does not establish that its events are syncing to the phone.

Google’s Calendar guidance distinguishes selecting a calendar for display from enabling synchronization. Android’s Calendar Provider likewise represents calendar visibility and event synchronization as separate states. In practical terms, check both: a hidden calendar can make its events look absent in the app, while a calendar that is not syncing may not have current events on the device.

Use a known event to test the result. After selecting the calendar, leave and reopen the app, refresh, and search for the appointment. If other calendars update while one remains stale, the problem is more likely to be that calendar’s own sync state than a general Android Auto connection issue. If no calendars update, move to the account-level checks below.

If the event is missing from the phone, repair phone-side sync first

Do these checks when an event is absent from the Calendar app as well as Android Auto. Menu names and locations vary by Android version and phone manufacturer; look for the equivalent account and sync controls if the path on your device differs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Confirm connectivity. Make sure the phone can access the internet, then open Google Calendar and refresh it manually. A connection that works for a web page can still be interrupted when the app is restricted in the background, so test the app itself.
  2. Update Google Calendar. If an update is available, install it before continuing, then refresh the app. Record the app version if you later need app-specific support.
  3. Check account sync. In Android settings, open the controls for the Google account that owns the event and check that Calendar synchronization is enabled. The precise settings path varies by device.
  4. Check the calendar’s own sync setting. If your device exposes an individual Sync option for that calendar, make sure it is on. Account-level sync and a calendar-level setting are separate checks.
  5. Allow time for the change to sync. A newly enabled setting or edited event may not appear immediately. Refresh again after allowing the phone to sync.
  6. Check available storage. Google says Calendar stops syncing when the device runs out of storage. Freeing space may be necessary if the phone is full.

Battery-saving or background-data controls can also make a refresh appear delayed, but the exact controls differ by manufacturer. Do not assume that changing such a control will solve an Android Auto-only problem when the event is already current in the Calendar app.

Google also lists Calendar storage and device storage among sync checks. Clearing Calendar app storage is a last resort, not a routine first step: unsynced event data that is not present in Google Calendar on the web can be lost. Before clearing anything, verify that important events appear online in the correct account. If they do not, preserve or recover that data before considering a destructive reset.

There is no meaningful benefit to clearing storage merely because the car screen is empty. First establish whether the phone app itself has the event. A reset that removes local, unsynced data can make account identification harder and cannot add support for a calendar type that Android Auto does not expose.

If the event is on the phone but absent in Android Auto, check data access

When the event is visible in Google Calendar on the phone, the account and phone-sync checks are less likely to be the problem. The next useful checks concern whether other apps are allowed to access calendar data. Android makes calendar information available through Calendar Provider, and an app also needs Calendar permission. Google’s own Calendar setting can further control whether that data is available through Calendar Provider to apps that already have permission.

  1. Review Calendar permission. In Android Settings, look under Privacy or Permission manager for Calendar. Check whether the relevant connected app has Calendar access. Labels and locations vary across Android versions and manufacturers.
  2. Review Google Calendar’s sharing setting. In Google Calendar, open Settings > General > Share Google Calendar data with other apps. Check whether the setting allows Calendar data to be shared with other apps.
  3. Reconnect and check again. After changing an access setting, reconnect to Android Auto and see whether the event appears. If it does not, note the phone’s Android version, the Android Auto version, and whether the same event remains visible in the Calendar app.

The permission check and the Calendar setting answer different questions. Android permission determines whether an app is allowed to request calendar information. The Google Calendar data-sharing control determines whether Calendar data is exposed through Calendar Provider to apps that have been granted that permission. One can be enabled while the other is not.

Turning off Share Google Calendar data with other apps can affect other apps’ ability to show or notify you about events, not just the app involved in your car setup. Change it only if you are comfortable with that broader effect. Google documents what this setting controls, but the available official material does not establish that every Android Auto version reads Calendar data through this route. Permission and data sharing are therefore sensible checks, not a guaranteed one-switch fix.

If permission is already granted and sharing is enabled, do not keep toggling the same switches indefinitely. Check whether all calendars are absent or only one, whether the phone and car use the same Google account, and whether the connected app is listed as compatible. Those observations provide more useful information than repeated permission prompts.

Check events created from Gmail

Travel reservations and other Gmail-derived entries may follow a different path from events you create directly in Calendar. If the missing entry was generated from an email, look in Google Calendar settings for Events from Gmail and check the relevant Google Workspace smart-features setting for the account.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Google says Events from Gmail is off by default for some regions, including the European Economic Area, Japan, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Whether an email-derived event is created or shown can depend on account and regional settings. This check is relevant to Gmail-generated events; it is not a general repair for manually created events that fail to sync.

Test a Gmail-derived event separately from a manually created test appointment. If the manual event appears in Calendar and Android Auto but the reservation does not, investigate Gmail event creation and regional settings. If neither appears, return to account, sync, visibility, and permission checks rather than changing Gmail settings.

Use version-aware expectations for Android Auto

Google’s Android Auto help provides general guidance about compatible apps and indicates that app-specific troubleshooting may require contacting the app developer. It does not provide a comprehensive Calendar-specific troubleshooting flow or confirm a universal setting that makes all Google Calendar events appear on every car screen. Phone software, app behavior, account configuration, and vehicle setup can vary.

If the event appears online and in Google Calendar on the phone, but still does not show in Android Auto after you have checked access settings, record the versions of Android and Android Auto and the calendar type involved. Use Google’s compatibility guidance to check supported apps and, if the issue appears specific to an app, consult that app’s developer. Avoid relying on older community discussions as proof that an interface or workaround still applies to current versions.

Document the exact symptom when asking for help: for example, “all events missing,” “only a shared calendar missing,” or “only Gmail-generated reservations missing.” Include whether the event appears at calendar.google.com and in the phone app, which account owns it, and whether Calendar permission and data sharing are enabled. This information lets support distinguish an account problem from an app-access or compatibility problem.

Compare the fault by account, calendar, and event type

Comparison Why it matters Useful test
Primary versus secondary calendar A hidden or separately unsynced calendar can look like a missing event while the primary calendar works. Create or inspect a test event on the primary calendar, then compare it with the missing calendar.
Personal versus work or school account The phone may contain both accounts, but each has its own calendars and sync controls. Switch accounts explicitly in Calendar and repeat the web, phone, and Android Auto checks.
Manual versus Gmail-generated event Gmail events have their own setting and regional behavior. Compare a manually created appointment with the email-derived entry.
Web versus phone This separates account/server presence from local sync. Search for the same event at calendar.google.com and in the app.
Phone versus car This identifies the phone-to-connected-app boundary. Keep the event open or visible in Calendar while reconnecting Android Auto.

These comparisons do not promise that a test event will appear in the car. They identify which layer is failing and prevent you from treating one successful calendar as proof that every calendar is supported.

Choose the next step from the symptom

  • Missing on the web and phone: verify the account and calendar that own the event. Do not start with Android Auto settings.
  • Visible on the web, missing on the phone: check internet access, account sync, the calendar’s individual Sync option if available, visibility, and storage.
  • Visible on the phone, missing only in Android Auto: check Calendar permission and Calendar data sharing, then account for differences in app and device versions.
  • Only Gmail-derived entries are missing: check Events from Gmail and the account’s smart-features settings, including any regional restrictions.
  • Considering clearing app storage: first confirm important events are present online in the correct account; otherwise, unsynced data may be lost.

This sequence separates a missing or unsynced event from an app-access or Android Auto compatibility issue. It also avoids assuming that a calendar visible on the phone must necessarily be displayed in the car.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Checking only the calendar color. A visible color or calendar name does not prove the event belongs to the account you think it does.
  • Confusing visibility with sync. Selecting a calendar in the menu controls what the app displays; it does not replace the account or calendar-level sync check.
  • Assuming Android Auto has a universal Calendar toggle. Google’s general help does not establish one switch that works on every phone, app version, and vehicle.
  • Clearing storage too early. Local events that have never reached Google Calendar on the web may be lost.
  • Treating Gmail events like manual events. Email-derived entries can be disabled by account or regional smart-feature settings.
  • Changing privacy settings without considering other apps. Calendar data sharing can affect any app that relies on Calendar Provider, not just the car connection.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Google Calendar work on my phone but not in Android Auto?

The event has passed the account, calendar, and phone-sync checks, so investigate the phone-to-app boundary. Review Android Calendar permission and Google Calendar’s Share Google Calendar data with other apps setting, then check Android Auto and app-version compatibility. Neither setting is documented as a guaranteed fix for every configuration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does checking a calendar in Google Calendar turn on synchronization?

No. Visibility and synchronization are separate states. Select the calendar so it is displayed, then verify account sync and the individual calendar’s Sync setting when your device provides one.

Can a device-only calendar appear in Android Auto?

Do not assume it can. An event on a device-only or different-account calendar may not be available to the Google account or connected app you expect. Confirm the owning account and where the event appears on the web and phone before troubleshooting the car.

What does “Share Google Calendar data with other apps” control?

Google says it controls whether Calendar data is accessible through Calendar Provider to apps that you have granted Calendar permission. Turning it off can affect other apps’ ability to display or notify you about events.

Why are travel reservations missing while manually created events work?

They may be Events from Gmail entries. Check that setting and the account’s Google Workspace smart-features controls. Google says the feature is off by default in the European Economic Area, Japan, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I clear Google Calendar storage?

Only as a last resort, after confirming important events are present on Google Calendar on the web. Google warns that unsynced event data not present online can be lost when app storage is cleared.

Is Android Auto incompatible with Google Calendar?

The official general Android Auto help does not establish a universal Calendar-specific compatibility rule. Behavior can vary with Android, Android Auto, the connected app, the account, the calendar type, and the vehicle setup. Check compatibility guidance and document the exact symptom rather than assuming a blanket incompatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Google Calendar work on my phone but not in Android Auto?

Review Android Calendar permission and Google Calendar’s “Share Google Calendar data with other apps” setting, then check app and device compatibility. Neither setting guarantees a fix for every configuration.

Does checking a calendar turn on synchronization?

No. Calendar visibility and synchronization are separate. Select the calendar in the app, then verify account sync and the calendar’s individual Sync option when available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I clear Google Calendar storage?

Only after confirming important events appear on Google Calendar on the web. Unsynced local data can be lost when storage is cleared.

Why are Gmail travel events missing?

Check Events from Gmail and the account’s smart-features settings. Google says the feature is off by default in the European Economic Area, Japan, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

The Bottom Line

Trace the event through Google Calendar on the web, the phone app, and Android Auto. Verify the owning account and calendar, check visibility separately from sync, and repair phone-side synchronization before changing car settings. If the event is on the phone but absent in Android Auto, review Calendar permission and Share Google Calendar data with other apps, while recognizing that Google does not promise one universal Calendar fix. Protect unsynced events before clearing storage, and treat Gmail-generated events and regional settings as a separate case.
