fullPage: true asks Puppeteer to capture the page’s full extent; it does not ensure that all below-the-fold content has loaded or rendered. If a page creates content only after scrolling, waits on a delayed request, or keeps content in a nested scroller, a full-page image can still look incomplete. First identify whether the content is absent, hidden, clipped, or simply not yet ready; then choose a remedy that matches the cause.
What fullPage: true does—and does not—do
Puppeteer’s ScreenshotOptions reference defines fullPage as an optional boolean: when true, it takes a screenshot of the full page. The current documentation displays version 25.12.0. This setting concerns the extent captured; it does not promise to scroll through the page to trigger every site-specific loading behavior or wait for every application component to appear.

Puppeteer also documents clip and captureBeyondViewport as separate screenshot controls. The screenshot guide covers page and element screenshots; an element screenshot attempts to scroll a hidden element into view by default. Page.screenshot() is the page-level capture method.

That distinction matters: a screenshot can faithfully capture the page’s current rendered extent while the page itself has not yet loaded or revealed the section you expected.

Why content below the fold can be missing
Lazy-loaded resources
Images, iframes, and other resources may load only as they approach the viewport. A historical Puppeteer issue report described missing lower-page screenshot content on a page with lazy-loaded images and an iframe, even though some text was already in the DOM. It is an example of a possible failure mode, not evidence that lazy loading explains every incomplete capture.
Scroll-triggered rendering
Some applications create or reveal content only after a scroll event or when an element intersects the viewport. A full-page capture should not be assumed to reproduce the sequence of scrolls and interactions a visitor would perform.
Readiness and timing
A navigation wait condition can confirm that a load milestone occurred without proving that a particular component or delayed request has finished. If a specific section matters, wait for a meaningful selector or application state rather than assuming a generic navigation or network-idle condition is sufficient.

Nested scrolling and fixed-height layouts
The missing content may be inside a fixed-height element with its own scrollbar instead of the document’s main scroll area. A document-level full-page screenshot may not capture the entire independently scrolling region.
Capture behavior varies by version and page
A historical discussion about Puppeteer v2.0.0 describes tradeoffs involving viewport clipping, resizing, and scrolling. Its workarounds are not universal fixes for current versions. Check both your installed Puppeteer and bundled Chromium versions before applying old flags or copying a workaround.
Diagnose the missing section before changing capture settings
- Compare before and after scrolling. Open the page at the intended viewport, inspect the section, then scroll to it. If the content appears only after scrolling, investigate lazy loading, intersection observers, scroll handlers, and nested scrollers.
- Check the element in the DOM. Determine whether it exists before capture. If it does, inspect computed visibility and layout to distinguish hidden content from content clipped by a parent or contained in another scrolling region.
- Wait for the state you actually need. Prefer a page-specific selector or readiness condition that represents the target content. A generic wait alone may not establish that a particular component has rendered.
- Record the environment. Note Puppeteer and Chromium versions and reduce the failure to a small reproducible page before changing flags. This helps separate an application timing issue from version-specific screenshot behavior.
Choose a remedy that fits the page
Static page content: capture the page or the target element
If the relevant content is already rendered and is not gated on scrolling, a direct full-page capture may be enough. If only one section matters, capture that element instead; Puppeteer’s element screenshot behavior can scroll a hidden element into view by default. Check that the element is visible and that its parent does not clip the part you need.

Content loads on scroll: scroll, wait, then capture
Scroll through the relevant document or nested container in increments, allow each section to load, and take the final full-page screenshot after the target content is ready. Pages can grow as they load, so recheck the document height while scrolling instead of assuming the initial height is final. For an independently scrolling component, scroll that component rather than only the document.

Resizing or stitching: use only when their tradeoffs are acceptable
Resizing the viewport can trigger lazy loading, but it can also change responsive layout and affect what loads. Scrolling and stitching captures can repeat sticky elements, distort parallax backgrounds, complicate stopping on infinite-scroll pages, and combine content that shifted between captures. Validate layout fidelity, dynamic regions, and the page’s stopping point before relying on either approach. These techniques are alternatives to test, not guaranteed improvements.

| Symptom | Likely distinction to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The image ends early, and the section is absent from the DOM before capture. | The application may not have loaded or created the content yet. | Wait for a page-specific readiness condition; if scrolling triggers creation, scroll through the relevant area before the final capture. |
| The element exists but is invisible or clipped. | Visibility, overflow, or a parent’s fixed dimensions may hide it. | Inspect computed visibility and the relevant ancestor layout; capture the element or adjust the page state as appropriate. |
| A section appears in the browser only after scrolling. | Lazy loading, intersection observers, or scroll handlers may be involved. | Scroll the document or its nested container in steps, wait for the content, and verify the final capture. |
| A workaround changes the page layout or repeats visual elements. | Viewport resizing or scroll-and-stitch behavior may be affecting responsive layout, sticky elements, parallax, or dynamic content. | Compare against the intended viewport and test another approach on the target page; do not assume a historical workaround applies to your version. |

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return a screenshot or PDF, and its capture workflow can accept consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing; response headers say whether a page was billed and its verdict. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The API also supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, waiting for a selector, delay, or network idle, and many other capture options; consult the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request details.

Quick Recap
What to check when the screenshot remains incomplete
- Confirm that the missing content exists in the DOM at capture time.
- Check whether the element is hidden, clipped, or inside an independently scrolling container.
- Use a page-specific readiness condition, then scroll if the site reveals or loads content on scroll.
- Validate resizing or stitching on the target page and intended viewport before adopting it.
- Keep Puppeteer and Chromium versions with the reproduction so old workarounds are not mistaken for current guarantees.
