What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A Chrome screenshot captures a page as it was rendered at a particular viewport size, device pixel ratio (DPR), browser preference, font setup and moment in time. If any of those differ from the website view you are comparing it with, the images may not match. The most reliable way to diagnose the difference is to make the conditions repeatable, then use Chrome DevTools to check layout, preferences, fonts and loading changes.
First, make the comparison reproducible
Before changing settings, record the conditions for both the screenshot and the page you expect it to match. Use the same URL and page state, and note the Chrome version, operating system, display setup, capture method, viewport width and height, device type and DPR. Without those details, there is no basis for naming one exact cause.

Chrome DevTools Device Mode can set a viewport and DPR and capture either the visible viewport or the full page. Device emulation is an approximation, however, not a substitute for running the page on a physical mobile device. See Chrome DevTools Device Mode.
Check the viewport, device scale and screenshot bounds
A page can use responsive breakpoints, so a small difference in viewport width may change its columns, navigation, spacing or typography. DPR also affects how CSS pixels map to screenshot pixels. In DevTools, turn on Device Mode and compare the device type, viewport dimensions and DPR with the conditions used for the other image.

- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
Check what the capture includes, too. A viewport screenshot shows the visible area; a full-page screenshot also includes content below the current viewport. If one image is a viewport capture and the other is full-page, their dimensions and visible content will differ even if the page renders identically.
Check browser preferences and rendering mode
Web pages can intentionally respond to browser-exposed media preferences. In DevTools, open the Rendering tab and use its media-feature emulation to test prefers-color-scheme, prefers-contrast, forced-colors, prefers-reduced-motion and color-gamut. After changing an emulated value, reload or re-render the page before comparing. Chrome also supports emulating print media, which can trigger print-specific layout and styling. The Rendering panel documentation describes these controls.

- 100HZ FAST REFRESH RATE: 100Hz brings your favorite movies and video games to life. Stream, binge, and play effortlessly
- SMOOTH ACTION WITH ADAPTIVE-SYNC: Adaptive-Sync technology ensures fluid action sequences and rapid response time. Every frame will be rendered smoothly with crystal clarity and without stutter
If the mismatch disappears when a preference is changed, the page may be responding as designed rather than producing a defective screenshot. Also check whether Chrome’s automatic dark theme behavior is involved; a page can look different when dark styling is applied. The relevant DevTools controls are documented in Rendering panel overview.

Check which fonts Chrome actually rendered
Font substitutions can change letter shapes, line breaks, element heights and alignment. Select the affected text in the Elements panel and inspect its rendered-font information. If the page’s @font-face rule includes a local() source, Chrome may use an installed local font instead of the web font you expected.

- Clear visuals. Fluid motion: A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT deliver smooth, tear‑free motion across work, gaming, and streaming for clearer, more fluid viewing.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star* certification reduces harmful blue light while preserving stunning color quality without compromise. *TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification.
- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
To test whether that is the difference, open the Rendering tab, enable Disable local fonts, then refresh and compare. This is a diagnostic test, not proof that every font mismatch comes from a local font. See Chrome DevTools Rendering tools.
Compare loading stages and cache state
A screenshot can catch a page before all its resources have loaded or before its final layout settles. To see how the appearance changes during loading, open DevTools settings, enable Screenshots in the Network panel, and reload. The panel shows page appearances at points during loading alongside network activity, helping you correlate a visual change with resource loading. Follow the Network panel screenshot instructions.

When investigating a first-visit versus repeat-visit difference, compare a normal reload with Empty Cache And Hard Reload. A cached stylesheet, image or font can make a repeat visit behave differently from a visit with an empty cache. This comparison helps reveal a cache-related difference; it does not by itself identify which resource or condition caused it. See Network panel reference.

If the page appears to move, flash or resize, turn on Paint flashing and Layout Shift Regions in the Rendering tab. Paint flashing highlights areas Chrome repaints; layout-shift regions mark areas affected by layout movement. These visual cues help establish whether the page changes while you are capturing it.

For timing detail, record a Performance panel trace and inspect its screenshots, frames, animation track and layout-shift track. That can show when the page changed, but the trace alone cannot establish the cause without examining the page and its activity. Chrome’s guidance is in Performance features in the Rendering panel and the Performance panel reference.

| What you are checking | Useful comparison | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Responsive layout | Match viewport, device type and DPR; compare viewport captures with viewport captures, or full-page with full-page. | Whether dimensions, scale or capture bounds explain the difference. |
| Preference-driven styling | Keep the page setup fixed and emulate one media preference at a time. | Whether the page responds to color scheme, contrast, motion, color gamut or print mode. |
| Loading or timing | Use Network screenshots or a Performance recording rather than a single image. | When the appearance changes relative to network activity, frames or layout shifts. |
Common problems and fixes
- The screenshot has different proportions or content. Confirm viewport dimensions and whether the capture is viewport-only or full-page.
- Colors or motion differ. Check emulated media features and print mode in the Rendering tab; compare one preference at a time.
- Text wraps differently. Inspect the rendered font and test with local fonts disabled, then refresh.
- The page looks right only after a delay. Use Network screenshots to identify the loading stage, then a Performance trace to examine later layout or animation changes.
- A reload changes the result. Compare ordinary reload with Empty Cache And Hard Reload, and inspect network activity for resources that load differently.
