First check where the repeat happens. If only you see one video repeat while watching a YouTube playlist, check the player’s repeat setting. If the livestream audience sees the same prerecorded file recur, check the encoder or hosted playout service sending the broadcast. Those are separate systems: a YouTube player control does not determine the content in your channel’s outgoing live feed.
Is the repeat in your player or in the livestream?
Ask whether other viewers see the same file repeat in the live broadcast, or whether it happens only on your device while you watch a YouTube playlist. That distinction points to the right place to troubleshoot.

- Only your viewing session: The likely issue is the playlist’s viewer-side playback control. YouTube supports looping an entire playlist and repeating one video within it. YouTube Help explains playlist looping.
- The live audience sees the file repeat: Investigate the source sequence feeding the stream, such as the encoder or hosted playout service. YouTube’s live setup describes sending content through an encoder; its player loop control is not documented as a setting for the outgoing broadcast. Fix a YouTube playlist that repeats one video for you
- Open the playlist while watching the video. On a computer, expand the playlist beside the video.
- Check the Loop control. YouTube Help says to click Loop to repeat the playlist continuously. The control has a second toggle state that repeats one video within the playlist. If one item keeps restarting, check whether repeat-one is selected and toggle it off or back to whole-playlist looping as appropriate.
- Check the device’s controls if you are not on a computer. YouTube notes that control locations and labels can vary by device, so look for the playlist repeat setting in that player rather than changing livestream settings.
- Play the playlist again and confirm the result on that device. This verifies viewer playback only; it does not establish that the live broadcast source has changed.
Fix a scheduled livestream that broadcasts the same file repeatedly
A scheduled live event and the media feed sent to it are distinct parts of the workflow. YouTube’s setup uses an encoder to send the feed. Its Live Streaming API likewise distinguishes scheduled liveBroadcast events from reusable liveStream delivery settings; reusing delivery settings does not mean the broadcast is using a YouTube viewer playlist.

- Inspect the actual source. Identify the encoder or hosted playout service supplying the live feed. Do not start by changing the YouTube viewer’s playlist repeat control.
- Verify the playlist contents. Confirm that every intended file is present, that the order is correct, and that the source has not been set to repeat its current item instead of advancing.
- Check the schedule in the service that owns it. If a hosted service schedules the files, inspect that service’s playlist and schedule. For example, Restream documents creating and scheduling a video playlist. That is an example of a hosted workflow, not evidence that you use Restream or that a particular service caused the repeat.
- Retest the layer you changed. If only your personal playback was affected, check the playlist in that player. If viewers saw the repeated file, check the live preview or output from the source workflow.
Why checking the right layer matters
YouTube documents playlist looping as a viewer playback behavior. Its live-stream instructions describe an event receiving content through an encoder, while the API separates the scheduled broadcast from delivery settings. So a playlist that looks correct in your YouTube account may not reflect the sequence being sent by your encoder or hosted service. The specific cause depends on that source’s configuration.
