There is no single confirmed cause: first find out whether the YouTube live event ended or whether it stayed live while the video stopped advancing. Those are different failures. If the event ended, check whether the encoder stopped sending content; if the event is still live, investigate the player, playlist, or automation supplying the next video. 4K60 settings can affect stream ingestion, but they do not control whether a playlist repeats.
First identify what actually stopped
When the first video finishes, check both YouTube and the software that supplies the video. YouTube describes a stream ending when the encoder stops sending content; it does not document the loop controls in third-party playlist applications. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance is useful for checking broadcast status, but cannot identify the cause of a particular source player stopping.

- The YouTube event ended: Check whether the encoder or streaming application stopped transmitting at the end of the video. Note the event status and any encoder or Live Control Room message. This observation points toward the broadcast path, but does not by itself prove why transmission stopped.
- The event is still live, but the video stopped or did not advance: Check the source player’s playlist, repeat or continuation setting, and any automation that should load the next item. The exact setting depends on the software; YouTube’s general encoder instructions do not establish a universal fix.
- The preview and public watch page disagree, or the status is unclear: Record what each shows, along with whether the encoder still reports that it is sending. Check stream health and messages in Live Control Room.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive behavior is separate from whether the source player should continue looping. YouTube’s setup and stream-ending instructions
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck the 4K60 feed separately from looping
Once you know whether the event or only the source stopped, inspect the encoder’s 4K60 settings as a separate diagnostic. The figures below are YouTube Help’s published guidance; the correct bitrate depends on the codec and your encoder’s current configuration. They are ingestion settings, not playlist-repeat controls. | Setting | YouTube guidance for 2160p at 60fps | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 bitrate | 10 Mbps minimum; 40 Mbps maximum | Use the guidance for the codec actually selected and confirm the encoder reports that codec. |
| H.264 bitrate | 35 Mbps recommended | This is the H.264 recommendation in YouTube’s returned settings table; do not apply it as though it were the AV1/H.265 range. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds | Check the encoder’s keyframe or GOP interval. |
| Frame rate and latency | Up to 60 fps; 4K streams are optimized for normal latency | Confirm the output is actually 2160p at 60 fps. Do not treat latency selection as a loop setting. |
YouTube recommends keeping total stream bitrate within available upload bandwidth and leaving 20% headroom. Run an upload speed test and compare the available capacity with the stream’s total bitrate; monitor stream health for interruptions. A network problem can disrupt transmission, but the fact that a source failed to repeat does not by itself show that bandwidth is the cause. YouTube streaming tips
Check protocol requirements only if your encoder uses HLS
Do not change HLS-specific settings unless HLS is the ingestion protocol in use. YouTube’s HLS guidance specifies TS segments, segment durations from 1 to 4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. HLS sends video in segments and has higher latency than continuous RTMP; these requirements concern delivery to YouTube, not whether a source playlist repeats. YouTube HLS ingestion guidance

Capture useful evidence before changing settings
Make one controlled test using video with representative motion and audio, then watch the stream through the point where the first item ends. YouTube recommends testing with similar content and monitoring stream health; a test helps distinguish a source transition problem from a transmission interruption. YouTube streaming tips
- Encoder or playlist application name and version.
- Whether the YouTube event ended, remained live, or showed an error; note what the preview and public watch page displayed.
- Whether the source player stopped, repeated the first item, or failed to load the next one.
- Ingestion protocol, codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval.
- Stream-health messages and the encoder’s send/transmission status at the time of failure.
These details narrow the problem without assuming that changing bitrate, buying equipment, or replacing the encoder will fix a source-loop issue.
