A YouTube radio stream is not required to stop simply because it has been live for 12 hours. YouTube’s 12-hour guidance concerns whether a stream is archived and whether viewers can rewind—not a general cutoff for live transmission. If the live player actually went offline, check the encoder and its outbound connection rather than assuming the archive limit ended the broadcast.
First identify what stopped
“The stream stopped” can describe three different problems. Separate them before troubleshooting:

- The live player went offline: the broadcast is no longer reaching viewers. Investigate the encoder, its connection to YouTube, and the outbound internet connection.
- The live stream ended but has no replay: this is an archive issue. YouTube says a stream under 12 hours can be archived automatically, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That warning does not say the live transmission must stop at 12 hours. YouTube Help: archive live streams
- Viewers cannot rewind far enough: this is a DVR limitation, not proof that the broadcast ended. YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Some devices and app configurations can have lower limits. YouTube Help: DVR on live streams
For a radio stream, check the live player and the channel’s live status at the reported time. If the player remained live but the replay or rewind was missing, focus on archive or DVR behavior. If it went offline, continue with transmission troubleshooting.

YouTube’s guidance is to look for a problem in the encoder or outbound connection. The steps below help locate it; without the stream’s status, logs, and network evidence, they do not establish which component caused a particular cutoff. YouTube Help: troubleshoot live streaming

- Check the encoder at the cutoff time. Look at its live status and error messages. Determine whether it stopped sending, reported a disconnect, or still showed a healthy outgoing stream.
- Check encoder errors and CPU load. YouTube recommends checking for encoder errors and high CPU usage. A busy or failing encoder is a possible lead to investigate, not a diagnosis by itself.
- Update the encoder software. YouTube recommends making sure the encoder is current.
- Test outbound internet connectivity. Check whether the connection from the encoder to YouTube was stable. A local internet speed result alone does not prove the encoder maintained a continuous outbound connection.
- Try another encoder if the current one appears healthy. YouTube suggests testing another encoder when the stream looks healthy in the one being used but the issue continues.

That distinction is useful when comparing encoder logs with the viewer-facing broadcast status: a problem sending the incoming stream, a broadcast lifecycle event, and a missing archive are not interchangeable symptoms. Protect the replay on broadcasts longer than 12 hours
If keeping a replay matters, make a local recording as a backup. YouTube recommends this because a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. A local recording protects a copy of the program; it does not keep the live broadcast connected if the encoder or connection fails. YouTube Help: archive live streams
