A webpage PDF can omit images because printing uses a browser’s print layout, which may differ from what you see on screen. First check whether the missing material is a background graphic: Edge and Firefox each have a print-background setting. If ordinary inline images are missing, test the page in another browser and compare it with another page before changing system settings.
Why images disappear from a webpage PDF
A browser creates a PDF from its print rendering of the page, not necessarily from an exact copy of the screen. A page’s print layout, browser settings, or a problem loading its content can therefore leave images out. Background graphics—such as decorative artwork or colored panels—are especially likely to be omitted when the print-background option is off. That setting does not fix every missing image: an inline image may have failed to load, or the site’s print layout may leave it out.

- Open the webpage’s print dialog and inspect its preview. Compare it with the page on screen, paying attention to whether the missing content is a background or an ordinary image.
- In Microsoft Edge, open More settings and turn on Background graphics. Check the preview again before saving or printing. Microsoft recommends this setting when the preview or output differs from the webpage: Troubleshoot print issues in Microsoft Edge.
- In Firefox, enable Print backgrounds in the print options and inspect the preview. If the page is set to Simplified, switch to its original format: Mozilla says Simplified disables the Print backgrounds control. To make a PDF from the preview, choose Save to PDF in the destination dropdown.
If the preview still lacks a regular inline image, continue diagnosing rather than assuming a background setting will restore it.

Use two comparisons to locate the problem
Open the same page in another browser
If the image appears in another browser’s print preview, the issue is more likely specific to the original browser’s settings or state. If it is missing in both, the page or its content is a stronger suspect. Mozilla recommends checking the page in another browser in its Firefox printing troubleshooting guide.
Print another page in the affected browser
Try a different website or document in the same browser. If that prints correctly, the original page’s styling, graphics, or code may be involved. Microsoft Support explains that “A website or document may have damaged graphics, fonts, or code that can be the cause of the print issue” in its Edge troubleshooting guide. Where available, Edge’s Immersive Reader can help you check whether page styling is involved by printing a plainer version.

Check whether other applications are affected
If print problems also occur outside the browser, the cause may be broader than the webpage or browser: Microsoft lists printer drivers, Windows, connectivity, and hardware among possible components. If Firefox alone is affected, Mozilla’s guide includes clearing saved print settings as a troubleshooting step.
If you need just one image
Firefox support says an image can typically be opened in a new tab and printed directly. This may help retrieve a single image, but it does not repair a PDF of the full webpage or restore other missing content.
