Why Does a 24/7 Indian Music YouTube Stream Keep Ending After Several Hours?

A 12-hour archive or DVR caveat does not mean YouTube ends every live stream. Here’s how to distinguish playback trouble from a broadcast interruption and check the encoder and connection.

A 24/7 Indian music stream ending after several hours is not, by itself, proof that YouTube imposes a universal time limit on live broadcasts. YouTube’s 12-hour guidance concerns whether a stream is archived and whether viewers can rewind with DVR—not a rule that every live stream must stop. To find the cause of a particular interruption, first establish whether the broadcast ended for everyone, then check the encoder and network path.

What YouTube’s 12-hour guidance actually means

YouTube distinguishes the live broadcast from what happens to it afterward. Its live-stream archiving guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is an archive caveat, not a stated universal limit on how long a broadcast may run.

DVR is separate. YouTube says rewind functionality may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. That affects viewers’ ability to go back in the live playback; it does not establish why a broadcast stopped. A stream can therefore continue while its archive or rewind behaves differently, and an archive or rewind problem alone does not show that the stream ended.

First determine what actually stopped

A playback session failing on one phone, browser, or connection is different from the channel’s live broadcast ending for everyone. Before changing stream settings, check the channel’s live page from another device or network and ask whether other viewers lost the feed at the same time. If the stream remains live elsewhere, investigate that viewer’s app, connection, or playback session rather than treating it as a channel-wide interruption.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0

If the channel’s live page shows the broadcast ended for other viewers too, move on to the creator’s encoder and upload connection. Without the stream URL or incident time, encoder status or logs, and relevant network or platform notices, there is no reliable way to name the cause of a specific channel’s interruption.

Check the encoder and network path

Confirm the encoder is still sending

The encoder is the software or hardware sending the video feed to YouTube. Check whether it is still running, whether it reports a connection or output error, and whether it stopped sending at the time the broadcast ended. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes starting and ending a stream through the encoder; its instructions say to stop sending content from the encoder to end the stream. An encoder interruption is a diagnostic possibility, not an established explanation until its status or logs support it.

Check upload stability and headroom

The connection from the streaming setup to YouTube can also be interrupted. YouTube’s streaming tips state: “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” The same guidance recommends a reliable network and upload bandwidth headroom. Check for drops or instability along the upload path, and avoid treating a single speed reading as proof that a connection remained reliable throughout a long broadcast.

Test any backup encoder before relying on it

If you have configured a backup encoder, do not assume failover will work until you have tested it. YouTube recommends testing by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, then checking whether playback rolls over to the backup. Test well before a scheduled stream so the interruption is controlled rather than discovered during an event.

Protect a separate local recording

A local recording can preserve the program if the live broadcast is interrupted, but it does not keep the channel live. YouTube recommends checking that the local archive file is growing and verifying the file’s integrity. Treat this as a recording safeguard, not a streaming fix.

Work through an interruption in this order

  1. Compare playback elsewhere. Open the channel’s live page on another device or network. If other viewers can still watch, investigate the original viewer’s playback session; if the broadcast is over for everyone, continue.
  2. Check encoder status and logs. Look for whether the encoder stopped, lost its connection, or reported an output problem at the incident time.
  3. Review the upload connection. Check the network path for instability or interruptions and whether it had upload bandwidth headroom during streaming.
  4. Check the backup, if configured. Review its status and test failover deliberately before depending on it for a long broadcast.
  5. Verify the local recording. Confirm that the file grew during the broadcast and check its integrity afterward.
  6. Separate the live event from its replay features. Check archive availability and DVR behavior independently; YouTube’s over-12-hour caveats do not identify the cause of a stream ending.
