What makes a clear case turn yellow?
“Jelly case” usually describes a flexible, transparent phone case. The sources here discuss transparent TPU/PC cases and TPU specifically; they do not establish that every clear case is made from the same material or discolors in the same way.

According to Mous Customer Service, light, heat, and hand oils can contribute to oxidation in TPU. Huawei Support separately associates yellowing in transparent TPU/PC cases with sunlight, sweat, and smudges. In Mous’s explanation, oxidation changes the plastic itself, so the color shift is not simply a layer of dirt that can be washed away.
Neither source gives a typical yellowing timeline or a rate of discoloration. The time and degree of change therefore cannot be predicted from these explanations alone.

Can you clean the yellow color off?
Cleaning may remove surface grease, sweat, or smudges, but it will not necessarily restore clarity if the material itself has changed color. Mous Customer Service describes TPU yellowing as “a chemical change, which is why it cannot be cleaned off.”
For greasy smudges, Huawei Support recommends gently wiping the case with a clean cloth dampened with water. That is surface care, not a treatment for oxidation. The cited manufacturer guidance does not validate abrasive cleaners, solvents, peroxide, or other chemical restoration methods, so avoid treating them as proven fixes.

How can you slow discoloration?
- Limit direct sunlight exposure, as Huawei Support recommends.
- Keep the case away from colored oily substances, another precaution in Huawei’s care guidance.
- Wipe greasy residue with a clean cloth dampened with water rather than relying on aggressive cleaning.
These measures limit exposure or surface contamination; they do not guarantee that a transparent case will remain clear indefinitely.
When should you replace a yellow case?
If the discoloration affects normal use, Huawei Support recommends purchasing a replacement through an official Huawei channel. For any phone, choose a case made for the exact model so that its fit and access to buttons, ports, and cameras are appropriate.

Do different clear-case materials stay clear longer?
Mous describes its own Clarity case as using PCTG co-polyester with a scratch-resistant layer. That is a manufacturer’s product description, not evidence that PCTG or a coating cannot yellow, or that it outlasts other materials across brands. The available manufacturer explanations do not establish an independent ranking of clear-case materials or products.
