Those symptoms point to different causes: an unsupported device, title-specific download rights, a plan limit, or an app, storage, or compatibility problem. Netflix’s current guidance says Windows devices can’t download titles, even though Netflix may be available for streaming on them.
Start with what you see
- No Download option on any title: Check that your device supports downloads, then update the Netflix app and device operating system.
- One title has no Download icon: The title may not be available for download. Try another show or movie before troubleshooting your device.
- An error message or code appears: Match the exact wording or code to the relevant fix. Device limits, monthly download limits, and SD-card errors are different problems.
- A download disappeared or will not play: Check the profile’s maturity settings, the title’s expiration, sign-in status, and whether app data or device storage was cleared.
Check whether your device supports Netflix downloads
Netflix lists Android phones and tablets, iPhone and iPad, Amazon Fire tablets, and Chromebooks with Google Play Store installed as download-capable device categories. Older operating-system versions may not support the feature, and Netflix notes that some Android devices are incompatible because hardware capabilities vary. For Fire tablets, Netflix specifies Fire OS 7 or later. See Netflix’s download troubleshooting guidance and supported download devices and limits.

Netflix’s current troubleshooting article says, “The download feature is not available for devices that use Windows.” A Windows computer may still stream Netflix, but changing a Windows setting will not enable offline downloads. If the Download option is missing on a supported device, update both Netflix and the operating system. On Android 10 or earlier, also check that Netflix has permission to access storage.

If only one show or movie cannot be downloaded
When other titles show the Download icon but one does not, Netflix says that title is unavailable for download. A title can be available to stream without being available offline: Netflix’s streaming and download rights may differ. Rights may be exclusive to another company, unavailable for purchase from the provider, or affected by factors such as popularity, cost, season, or location. Even a title branded as a Netflix original may involve a studio that retains related franchise or intellectual-property rights. Check another title to distinguish a rights issue from a device problem. Netflix explains these restrictions in its article about titles that cannot be downloaded.

Understand the two kinds of plan limits
Netflix describes limits on both the number of downloads and the number of devices holding downloads. They are separate limits and have different fixes.
| Limit or message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Download Max Reached on an ad-supported plan | Netflix says ad-supported plans allow 15 total downloads per device per calendar month. The limit resets on the first day of each calendar month. | Wait for the next monthly reset. Check Netflix’s Download Max Reached guidance. |
| Active-download limit on an ad-free plan | Netflix says ad-free plans can have up to 100 active downloads at a time per device, depending on the number of devices included in the plan. | Remove titles you have finished to free space within the active-download limit. Plan details are described in Netflix’s download limits article. |
| “You have downloads on too many devices” or code 10016-23000 or NQL.23000 | The plan’s allowance for devices with downloads has been reached. This is a device-count limit, not the monthly-download limit. | Remove downloads from a device you no longer use, or review whether a plan with a higher download-device allowance fits your needs. Netflix’s too-many-devices help page describes the available options. |
To remove downloads from an old device, use the Netflix app’s Mobile download devices section or the Manage Download Devices page referenced in Netflix’s device-limit guidance. Do not assume that deleting a title from one device will reset an ad-supported plan’s monthly allowance: the monthly cap is a different limit.

Fix app, profile, storage, and playback problems
Update before resetting
Install the latest Netflix app and device operating-system updates. If Netflix is installed on an older Android device, check the storage permission as well. If the device remains incompatible, try a supported device rather than repeatedly changing app settings.
Check why a download is missing
Downloads stay on the device used to download them, though they are accessible across profiles on that device. You must remain signed in to watch downloaded titles offline. Downloads expire after a period, and some titles have yearly limits on the number of times they can be downloaded. A profile’s maturity restrictions can also hide titles above its allowed rating. Netflix covers these details in its download information and its guidance for missing downloads.

Clearing Netflix app data or uninstalling and reinstalling Netflix deletes downloaded titles and signs you out. Some cleaner apps can also clear Netflix data. Before taking either destructive step, make sure you know your sign-in details and are willing to download titles again. If downloads are stored on an SD card, use the card-specific checks below before clearing app data.

OF.NA.5: SD-card problem
Netflix says OF.NA.5 indicates a problem with the SD card. Eject and reseat the card, restart the device, and try the download again. If it still fails, test a different compatible SD card. If the other card works, the original card may need formatting or replacement; use internal storage if the device or card does not support Netflix downloads. Follow Netflix’s OF.NA.5 steps and verify your device’s storage compatibility before buying a replacement card.

OF.NA.6: device does not meet download requirements
Netflix says OF.NA.6 means the device does not meet download security requirements or does not support the feature. Because some Android devices are incompatible, Netflix recommends using a different supported device. A storage-card change is not the indicated fix for this error. See Netflix’s OF.NA.6 guidance.

A safe troubleshooting order
- Test a second title. If only one title lacks the Download icon, check title availability rather than assuming the device is broken.
- Verify device support. Check the device category and operating system; Windows downloads are unavailable according to Netflix’s current guidance.
- Write down the exact error. Use the wording or code to distinguish a device-count warning, monthly cap, OF.NA.5, or OF.NA.6.
- Update Netflix and the operating system. On Android 10 or earlier, check Netflix storage permission.
- Apply the limit-specific remedy. Remove downloads from an unused device for a device-count warning; for Download Max Reached on an ad-supported plan, wait for the first-of-month reset.
- Follow the error-specific storage fix. For OF.NA.5, reseat or test the SD card. For OF.NA.6, try a different supported device.
- Reset or reinstall only as a last resort. These steps remove downloads and sign you out, so first confirm you can sign in again.
