Ben Falik says he built KozVault to address a gap he sees in conventional secret managers: they can store passwords and other sensitive information, but do not necessarily help people arrange access to it if they become unable to explain or retrieve it. His project combines secret management with scheduled delivery of messages or files—a digital-legacy idea that remains a creator-described feature, not an independently verified security or legal solution.
What problem is KozVault meant to solve?
In a DEV Community post, Falik identifies himself as an independent developer and frames KozVault around a practical problem: people may leave behind accounts, crypto wallets, documents, or personal messages that others cannot access or understand. A conventional password vault can organize secrets, but the creator argues that it does not by itself provide a plan for passing selected information to someone else later.

KozVault is presented as an online secret manager with a digital-legacy layer. Instead of limiting the product to storing secrets for the account holder, the concept includes preparing encrypted messages or files for release at a chosen time or to chosen people. That is a software feature description; the source does not establish whether such a mechanism meets the legal requirements for a will.
How does KozVault say it handles secrets?
Falik describes KozVault as zero-knowledge: he says the master secret stays on the user’s device and the server receives only encrypted blobs. In his words, “The server only ever sees encrypted blobs.” That is the creator’s account of the design, not an independently verified finding about the deployed product.

The post also claims HMAC-SHA256 authentication in under 1 ms, says no master key is transmitted, and describes KozVault as an offline-first progressive web app (PWA). These are implementation and performance claims made by the developer. No code review, independent benchmark, or security audit was established, so the figures and architecture should not be treated as validated security guarantees.
What makes the digital-will feature different?
The distinguishing idea is scheduled access to selected content. Falik says users can arrange future release of voice messages, video messages, or files, with delivery tied to a chosen date or person. This turns the product’s focus from storing secrets alone to deciding what should be passed on and when.

The post does not establish how recipients are authenticated, what happens if a user’s circumstances change, or whether a release can be cancelled or delayed. Those operational details matter for any time-based handoff of sensitive material, so users should confirm them in the product’s current documentation before relying on the feature.

What has—and has not—been established?
- Creator-described purpose: combine secret storage with scheduled delivery of encrypted messages or files.
- Creator-described protections: local master-secret handling, encrypted server-side blobs, HMAC-SHA256 authentication, and offline-first PWA behavior.
- Not independently established: an audit, source-code review, third-party validation, or benchmark confirming those claims.
- Availability: Falik says a free tier is live and fully functional, but current access and terms could not be confirmed from the available product page.
- Legal status: the source describes a digital-will feature, but does not show that it creates a legally valid will.
How should readers evaluate the security claims?
“Zero-knowledge” is a design claim whose value depends on implementation and on the software actually delivered to users. Will.com’s separate security documentation discusses browser-side encryption in its own service and notes limits such as visible metadata, browser-delivered code, and compromised devices. That is useful general context for assessing vendor claims, but it is not evidence that KozVault uses the same design or protections.

For KozVault specifically, a cautious reader should look for clear technical documentation, an independently performed audit, and precise information about account recovery, recipient access, and scheduled-release controls. Until that evidence is available, treat the creator’s description as a proposed architecture rather than proof that the service is safe for high-consequence secrets.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What feedback is the creator seeking?
Falik’s post invites developers, security enthusiasts, and UX experts to try the project and give feedback. He asks whether onboarding is clear, whether the security approach raises red flags, and what features users would add. Those are useful evaluation questions, but the post does not report usability-test results or independent security conclusions.
