Android voice typing can switch languages when automatic detection is enabled, but Gboard’s Hindi, Latin/Hinglish keyboard option does not mean its voice typing supports Hinglish dictation. Google’s published list for Advanced voice typing includes English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish—not Hindi or Hinglish. Turning off automatic switching can stop changes among supported locales, but Google does not promise that it will make mixed Hindi-English speech recognition accurate.
Why does voice typing switch languages?
On supported Pixel devices, Advanced voice typing can detect and switch between supported languages automatically. If the detected language differs from what you are speaking, the transcript may appear in another language or words may be recognized incorrectly. Google documents this feature for Pixel 6 and newer and lists English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish as supported languages. Hindi and Hinglish are not included in that list. Keyboard language availability and speech-recognition support are separate things. Gboard lists Hindi, Latin/Hinglish as a keyboard language option, but that does not establish that voice typing recognizes spoken Hinglish. Google also cautions that talk-to-text does not work with all languages. See Gboard’s supported languages and voice-typing help.
Stop automatic language switching on a supported Pixel
If you use Advanced voice typing on a Pixel 6 or newer and the option is available, turn off automatic switching and select a keyboard language yourself:

- Open Gboard settings and tap Voice typing.
- Turn off Auto-switch language.
- Select the appropriate keyboard language using Gboard’s language switcher before dictating.
This prevents automatic changes among supported locales; it does not add Hindi or Hinglish to the published Advanced voice typing language list or guarantee accurate mixed-language transcription. Menu wording and availability can vary by Android and Gboard version. Google’s Advanced voice typing instructions cover manual switching.
Check the selected Gboard language and layout
Make sure the intended language is added to Gboard and selected. Adding a keyboard language changes Gboard’s available layouts, not the Android device’s system language.

- Open Gboard Settings > Languages > Add keyboard, then choose the language and layout you need.
- When the keyboard is open, switch languages with the globe key or hold the space bar and choose a layout.
Google’s instructions for typing in a different language describe these controls.
Troubleshoot voice typing and Advanced voice typing
- Check that Gboard has microphone permission and that voice typing is enabled.
- Update Gboard. If the issue continues, Google suggests clearing the app cache.
- If you use Advanced voice typing, make sure the primary Gboard language and the device language match.
Follow Google’s Gboard troubleshooting steps for Android. If only one word is wrong, tap it and correct it by speaking, typing, spelling it out, or choosing a suggested alternative, as described in Google’s Advanced voice typing guide.

What this means for Hinglish dictation
These settings can address an unintended keyboard selection or automatic switching between supported languages. They cannot be treated as a fix for Hinglish recognition: Google’s published Advanced voice typing language list does not include Hindi or Hinglish, and the separate Gboard keyboard listing is not confirmation of voice-dictation support. If accurate Hinglish transcription is essential, the available official documentation does not establish that Gboard voice typing will provide it.
