Apple recommends removing a thick, metal, or battery case when wireless charging is slow or absent. That makes the case a useful variable to check—not proof that every case causes a problem.
How a case can affect MagSafe charging
MagSafe uses magnets to help align the charger with the iPhone for wireless charging. A case may be involved if its construction or fit affects that alignment, or if it is thick, metal, or incorporates a battery. Apple’s guidance supports testing those cases, but does not say that all cases interfere or identify a particular iPhone 18 Pro case as the cause. Objects placed between the phone and charger can also affect charging. Apple advises removing intervening items; its MagSafe instructions specifically say to remove an attached iPhone Leather Wallet before placing the charger. Magnets can damage some cards or RFID items, so keep those away from the charging surface.

- Remove anything attached or sandwiched between the phone and charger. Take off a wallet and remove cards or other objects from the charging surface.
- Test the phone without its case. Place the bare iPhone on the charger. Apple specifically recommends this test for a thick, metal, or battery case when charging is slow or absent.
- Check placement and the charging indicator. Put the charger on a level surface and position the phone as the charger maker recommends. The phone should begin charging a few seconds after placement; with MagSafe, look for the charging symbol.
- Compare the result with the case back on. If the bare phone charges but the cased phone does not, the case or its fit is implicated. Check the case maker’s compatibility description for the exact iPhone 18 Pro model and whether it explicitly says MagSafe-compatible. Apple’s MagSafe guidance describes attachment to a MagSafe case but does not certify a named third-party case.
If removing the case does not help
Check whether the iPhone is connected to USB: when it is, it charges through that connection rather than wirelessly. Also check whether the phone is warm; Apple says software may limit charging above 80 percent when the device is too warm.

If neither explains the behavior, try another known-good compatible charger. Apple’s MagSafe Charger instructions list iPhone 18 Pro as a supported model and describe charger and adapter conditions. That establishes phone-and-charger compatibility, not compatibility of a particular third-party case. If the setup still will not charge, contact Apple Support or the charger’s maker; the cited Apple guidance does not provide a case-specific repair procedure.
What to check before choosing another case
If the case-off test points to the case, compare the maker’s specifications rather than relying on appearance alone. Apple’s guidance does not provide a certification checklist for third-party cases.

- Does the listing state that the case fits iPhone 18 Pro specifically?
- Does the maker explicitly identify it as MagSafe-compatible?
- What thickness and materials does the maker specify?
- Does the maker describe magnetic attachment strength?
- Can you return it if charging remains unreliable?
Do not assume that buying another case will fix the issue unless the case-off test changes the result.
