1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsMost often, the first thing to check is where the overlay sits in Wirecast’s shot and layer composition. If it is part of one video shot’s Shot Layers, switching the playlist to a different shot can make the graphic disappear. For a logo or lower third that should stay visible over several clips, put it on a separate Main Shot Display layer above the video layer and keep that layer live. This is a troubleshooting inference from Wirecast’s documented layer model, not a confirmed diagnosis of your particular project.
First, find out where the overlay disappears
Compare Wirecast’s Live Broadcast Area with the stream YouTube is receiving. That comparison separates a composition problem inside Wirecast from a problem later in the output path.

- If the overlay is missing in Wirecast Live: check which shot and layers are live, where the graphic is attached, and the layer order.
- If the overlay is visible in Wirecast Live but absent from YouTube: investigate the output or connection path separately. The available documentation does not establish a specific YouTube-side cause for this symptom.
Check the Live Broadcast Area, not Preview alone: a graphic visible in Preview is not proof that it is part of the current broadcast output.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Why switching a playlist can remove a graphic
Wirecast treats switching to a playlist as ordinary shot switching. A graphic placed in a video shot’s Shot Layers belongs to that shot’s contained composite. When the playlist advances to a different video shot, that next shot may not contain the same graphic. Telestream’s layer guidance distinguishes these shot-contained layers from Main Shot Display layers, which can be composited independently.

In a layered live composition, the active layers appear together, and their stacking order matters: Wirecast’s 16.3 Windows User Guide describes layer 1 as the top layer and layer 5 as the bottom layer. A persistent graphic therefore needs both to remain live and to sit above the video layer.
Choose the layer arrangement that matches the graphic
| Arrangement | How it behaves | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Main Shot Display layer | The overlay can be switched or cleared independently of another live layer; layer order determines whether it sits above the video. | A logo or lower third should remain visible while playlist video shots change. |
| Shot Layers | The graphic is part of a contained composite attached to a particular shot and appears when that shot is used. | The graphic belongs only to one camera or video shot. |
As Telestream’s Best Practices for Setting up Shot Layers in Wirecast explains, Main Shot Display layers composite elements independently, while Shot Layers build a contained composite that appears with a single shot.

Fix a persistent overlay in Wirecast
- Locate the graphic. Inspect the playlist video shot’s Shot Layers and the project’s Main Shot Display layers. If the graphic is attached only to one playlist shot, that explains why it may not carry over to another.
- Move or add the graphic to a Main Shot Display layer. Use this arrangement for a logo or lower third intended to persist across clips. Keep it in Shot Layers if it should appear only with its associated shot.
- Put the overlay above the video layer. Confirm the intended layer order in the live composition so the video does not cover the graphic.
- Check how shots go live. With AutoLive on, selecting a shot sends it live. With AutoLive off, select the intended shot or layered combination in Preview and click Go. Confirm that the overlay layer is also live after the switch.
- Test a controlled playlist change. In the same project, observe Wirecast Live while switching between two playlist clips. If the overlay disappears there, continue adjusting the shot or layer arrangement before the next broadcast.
These interface details come from Telestream’s Wirecast 16.3 Windows User Guide, especially its Live Broadcast Production section. Controls can differ by Wirecast release and operating system, so check the labels in your installed version.

Check a Singular.live graphic if you use one
If the overlay is a Singular.live source, its Wirecast integration guidance calls for confirming that the graphic has been taken on-air and that its Wirecast layer is above the video layers. This check applies only when Singular.live is actually part of the setup; it is not a general fix for every overlay source.

Troubleshooting by symptom
| What you see | What to check next |
|---|---|
| The graphic vanishes in Wirecast Live as the playlist changes clips. | Check whether it is contained in the outgoing shot’s Shot Layers rather than on an independently live Main Shot Display layer. |
| The graphic remains in Wirecast Live but is absent from YouTube. | Investigate the encoder output and connection path separately; the cited material does not identify a specific cause for this case. |
| The graphic appears in Preview but not in the broadcast. | Check whether the intended shot and overlay layer have actually been sent live, including whether AutoLive is enabled or Go has been pressed. |
| The graphic is live but hidden behind the clip. | Check the stacking order and place the overlay layer above the video layer. |
| Only a Singular.live overlay is missing. | Confirm that the graphic is on-air and that its Wirecast layer is above the video layers. |
