YouTube documents continuous broadcasts, but its documentation does not guarantee uninterrupted playback or prescribe a complete hosting and failover setup. Plan how the feed will be monitored and restored before launch.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has had no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and is operated by someone at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup requirements.
- A prepared set of original stop-motion episodes encoded in a format your chosen encoder can send to YouTube.
- An encoder-based workflow. YouTube describes encoder streaming as suitable for feeds using overlays and external equipment such as cameras, microphones, and preamps; it does not require dedicated hardware.
- A plan for continuous playback, monitoring, and recovery. YouTube’s platform documentation establishes that a 24/7 feed is a supported use case, not that any particular playback app, cloud service, uptime level, or failover method is guaranteed.
- Rights to every visual and audio element in the feed, including music, sound effects, artwork, voices, and footage.
Build a story library that works as a continuous channel
Make each episode distinct
Arrange episodes so a viewer arriving at any point can understand and enjoy the story without relying on a single fixed start time. Give installments meaningful differences in storyline, focus, or concept rather than changing only a title card or minor visual detail. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to livestreams as well as other formats, and says repetitive or mass-produced material is not eligible for monetization. Similar serial content can qualify when each installment delivers value and has a distinct storyline, focus, or concept. The policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content.” Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Clear assets before adding them
“Original stop-motion” does not automatically mean every part of a production is cleared. Confirm that you can use each track, effect, voice, image, and other element in a live feed and its archived recording. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can lead to a warning, replacement of the feed with a placeholder, interruption, or termination. If you have a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. An archived livestream may also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Set up the continuous broadcast
- Check live access. In YouTube, follow the live-stream setup flow for your channel and complete verification if prompted. Confirm there has been no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube states that creators must be at least 16 to livestream.
- Choose an encoder workflow. Use software or hardware that can send your prepared program feed to YouTube and can keep playing the episode library. YouTube supports encoder streaming, but its cited documentation does not endorse a particular continuous-playback application or require a hardware encoder.
- Choose an ingestion protocol that fits your setup. YouTube documents HLS ingestion for high-quality, higher-resolution streams when relatively higher latency is acceptable. Its HLS guide covers supported media formats, playlist sequencing, segments, and transport requirements. HLS is not a universal best choice; check compatibility with your encoder and the latency your channel can tolerate. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion documentation.
- Configure the broadcast in YouTube and the encoder. Create the live broadcast using YouTube’s live workflow, then connect the encoder using the stream connection details YouTube provides. Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your channel. Follow YouTube’s current encoder guidance for the protocol, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe settings supported by your chosen workflow. The available official material here does not establish one set of bitrate or resolution values suitable for every production; consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions page directly.
- Start a private or unlisted test first. Check that the feed reaches YouTube, that the picture and sound are correct, and that the episode sequence behaves as intended. Confirm what viewers see if an episode ends, playback reaches the end of the library, or the encoder connection drops.
- Go public only after checking the live preview. Monitor the stream after launch, and decide who or what will notice a stalled feed and how it will be restarted. The cited YouTube documentation does not specify a guaranteed recovery mechanism for a third-party encoder or playback system.
Can a 24/7 broadcast coexist with a separate live event?
Yes. Google for Developers documents a continuous broadcast remaining live while a separate broadcast is created for another event. Its example describes a channel with a “24/7 live feed” that also creates a separate video for an interview; the interview can be streamed to its own video while the continuous broadcast continues. This demonstrates a supported API use case, not a promise that a particular encoder or service can operate both feeds without configuration. See Google’s explanation of broadcasts and streams.

Monetization: separate channel quality from eligibility
A distinctive, rights-cleared story channel may be suitable for monetization, but originality alone does not grant access to YouTube monetization features. YouTube lists separate thresholds and other requirements, and feature availability varies by location. Its help page, accessed in 2026, lists these entry thresholds:
| Feature threshold listed by YouTube | Subscriber and activity requirements |
|---|---|
| Some fan-funding features | 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified long-form watch hours in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days; other requirements apply. |
| Ad revenue eligibility | 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified long-form watch hours in the last 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days; location, contract, age, and policy requirements also apply. |
These are eligibility thresholds, not a promise of approval or earnings. Check YouTube’s current guide to earning money for the requirements that apply to your location and account.
Troubleshoot common failures
The channel cannot start a livestream
Check that channel verification is complete and that there has been no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Also confirm the operator meets YouTube’s stated minimum age of 16. Review the live setup page for current prompts and eligibility details.

- Ideas and inspiration for lighting, scenery, sound effects and camera work
- Official Lego guide to stop-motion animation
- Contains one 78-page book, 36 LEGO elements, backgrounds and animation frames
- Conforms to ASTM D 4236
YouTube receives no video from the encoder
Check that the encoder uses the protocol and connection details configured for the broadcast, and that the stream key was copied correctly. Confirm that your selected protocol, media format, and encoder settings are compatible with YouTube’s documentation. If you change a stream key, update the encoder as well.
The image or audio is not as expected
Compare the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe configuration with YouTube’s current guidance and the capabilities of your source files. A single setting cannot be assumed to suit every encoder or delivery protocol. Test privately before switching to a public continuous feed.
The feed is interrupted after a copyright match
Identify the matched material and remove or replace it unless you have the necessary rights. For licensed material, contact the rights holder about the Content ID allowlist. Check the archived stream as well, because a Content ID claim may arrive after the broadcast ends.

The feed stops after an episode or library ends
Check the playback system’s sequence and end-of-playlist behavior. Confirm that the encoder remains connected when a file ends and that the next episode starts as intended. YouTube documents continuous broadcasting as a use case, but does not provide a tested playlist player or universal failover method in the cited material; verify these behaviors in your own workflow.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping a channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it loops uploaded videos rather than streaming from a camera. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card.
Any quality you upload, up to 4K 60fps, streams as made at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. A slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots, plus 24/7 looping, playlists, and support from the StreamNeo team. The same product is on every plan; only the billing period changes. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start the free first day on StreamNeo.
