Sony announced in March 2022 that PlayStation Now would stop being available as a standalone service when the new PlayStation Plus launched. Its announcement does not explain the price of any particular resale listing or establish whether a legacy code or account can still be redeemed.
What changed when PlayStation Now was folded into PlayStation Plus?
On March 29, 2022, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that PlayStation Now would transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and would no longer be sold as a standalone service after the new service launched. Sony said existing PlayStation Now customers would move to PlayStation Plus Premium without an increase to their then-current subscription fees at launch.

That was a statement about the launch transition for existing subscribers. It was not a guarantee about current subscription prices, third-party resale listings, or the continuing validity of old codes. Sony described three PlayStation Plus plans—Essential, Extra, and Premium—and said Premium included streaming benefits in markets where cloud streaming was available.
Why might a used listing appear more expensive?
The available official announcement does not identify the reason for a specific used-versus-new price gap. Without details about the actual offers, it would be guesswork to blame scarcity, seller markup, regional restrictions, or a code’s status. A listing labeled “PlayStation Now” may also describe a different entitlement from a new PlayStation Plus subscription, so the two prices may not represent equivalent products.

- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
Before treating the difference as a genuine overprice, compare the offers on the same terms:
- Market and currency: Make sure both offers are for the same country or region and compare prices in the same currency.
- Duration: A monthly subscription is not equivalent to a quarterly or yearly code.
- Included service: Check which tier and benefits the offer actually provides rather than relying on an old product name.
- Redemption: Find out whether the seller is offering a code or an account, and verify eligibility and redemption status with the seller or platform before paying. Sony’s announcement does not confirm that any particular legacy code or account works.
- Listing date: Compare offers observed at the same time. A price captured in an old listing may not reflect the current cost of a new subscription.
Historical launch prices are not current price comparisons
Sony’s 2022 announcement gave these PlayStation Plus Premium launch prices for selected markets. They are historical figures, not confirmed current rates; Sony also cautioned that local pricing could vary.

These are launch prices announced by Sony in 2022, not a present-day price list. They should only be used to understand what Sony announced at that time—not to decide whether a current resale listing is a better deal. Compare prices only within the same market and subscription term, and check the current offer directly before buying.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat the price inversion does—and does not—tell you
A higher price on a used PlayStation Now listing does not, by itself, show that the old service is more valuable or that the listing will provide the same benefits as a new subscription. Sony’s announcement establishes the service transition, but not the validity, transferability, region eligibility, or value of a particular resale offer. Those details depend on the specific listing and must be verified separately.

If a seller cannot clearly identify the region, term, entitlement, and redemption conditions, there is not enough information to make a like-for-like comparison. Treat the displayed price as an asking price, not proof that the item is redeemable or equivalent to a current subscription.
