But AMD has not confirmed that Verano has up to 192 cores—or published a final core count, memory configuration, launch date or price. The 192-core figure belongs to a different processor, the EPYC 9965. A report published in October 2026 attributes up to 72 cores and 24-channel LPDDR5X memory to Verano, but those details remain unverified.
What AMD has confirmed about EPYC Verano
AMD announced Verano on May 21, 2026, identifying it as a future 6th Gen EPYC processor following Venice in the company’s roadmap. AMD said Verano was expected to include LPDDR memory innovations for cloud and AI workloads, but did not specify the memory generation or provide product-level specifications. AMD’s announcement also gave no Verano core count, socket, SKU list, launch date, price, memory-channel count or benchmark result.

AMD has also named EPYC Verano as the CPU planned for its Helios 500 rackscale solution, alongside AMD Instinct MI500 GPUs and Pensando networking. That places Verano in a planned AI-system design; it does not mean the processor or system is currently available. AMD’s AAI 2026 announcement describes the system role, not a Verano specification sheet.

Does Verano have 192 cores?
No official AMD source cited here confirms a 192-core Verano. AMD’s 192-core figure refers to the EPYC 9965, a separate processor. In its July 2026 discussion of agentic AI workloads, AMD identifies the EPYC 9965 as a 192-core, 384-thread platform; the same materials identify the EPYC 9996 as a 256-core, 512-thread processor. Neither figure establishes Verano’s core count. AMD’s blog and investor announcement discuss those other processors.

The distinction matters because AMD’s July blog describes the 6th Gen EPYC 9006 family in the Venice context as Zen 6 and TSMC 2nm, with up to 256 cores and 512 threads per socket, up to 16 DDR5 memory channels, MRDIMM support up to 12,800 MT/s, and PCIe Gen 6. Those are 9006/Venice family details in that article, not confirmed Verano specifications. A family-level figure should not be transferred to Verano without an explicit product specification.
What has been reported about Verano’s cores and memory
Tom’s Hardware reported on October 8, 2026, that preliminary third-party evidence, including a Dynatron SB1 cooler listing, suggested a Verano configuration with up to 72 Zen 6 cores, a new SB1 socket, and 24 channels of LPDDR5X memory using replaceable SOCAMM2 modules. These are reported possibilities, not specifications AMD has confirmed. The report says AMD had not disclosed SB1’s specifications, dimensions or capabilities, and notes uncertainty about the cooler listing and what it implies about power. Read Tom’s Hardware’s report.

- Dual Processor Support: Supports and includes 2 AMD EPYC processors installed for enhanced computing performance
- Processor Configuration: Features 2 installed AMD EPYC processors for powerful server operations
- AMD Processor Technology: Equipped with AMD processor manufacturer components for reliable performance
- EPYC Processor Type: Utilizes AMD EPYC processor type designed for enterprise-level server applications
- 5th Generation Processing: Powered by 5th Gen AMD EPYC 9115 processors running at 2.60 GHz with hexadeca-core architecture
So the careful answer to “Does Verano support LPDDR5X?” is that AMD has announced LPDDR integration, while the LPDDR5X generation and 24-channel SOCAMM2 arrangement come from secondary reporting. AMD has not yet published a final memory capacity, bandwidth or module-compatibility specification in the cited official material.

Why a host CPU matters in an AI rack
Agentic AI systems do more than run model inference. AMD describes CPU-involving stages such as assembling context, planning and routing, retrieving information, using enterprise and temporary tools, verifying results and streaming responses. These activities require coordination and data movement across compute, memory, storage, networking, orchestration software and runtime isolation. This is the broader rationale for a capable host CPU alongside accelerators; it is not evidence of Verano’s measured performance.

AMD’s July 2026 blog reports an 82% geometric-mean performance advantage for EPYC 9005 over Intel Xeon 6980P and a 174% uplift for EPYC 9006 in selected CPU-centric agentic AI tests. These are AMD’s own claims for the identified platforms and test scope, not Verano results. The blog explicitly excludes GPU inference performance, so the figures should not be read as end-to-end AI-system comparisons or as a forecast for Verano. AMD explains its workload scope and methodology.
Verano specifications: confirmed versus unconfirmed
| Detail | Status |
|---|---|
| Product generation and role | AMD announced Verano as a future 6th Gen EPYC processor for cloud and AI workloads. |
| Planned system | AMD names Verano as the CPU in the planned Helios 500 rackscale solution. |
| Core count | Not stated by AMD for Verano. Up to 72 Zen 6 cores is secondary reporting; 192 cores describes the EPYC 9965, not Verano. |
| Memory | AMD has said LPDDR innovations are expected, without specifying generation or channels. 24-channel LPDDR5X with SOCAMM2 modules is reported, not confirmed. |
| Socket | Not specified by AMD. SB1 is reported, but AMD has not disclosed its capabilities. |
| Launch date, price and benchmarks | Not stated in the cited AMD announcements. |
What to watch for next
Before treating Verano as a purchase or system-planning option, look for an AMD product specification and matching system-vendor documentation. The details that would settle the current questions include final core and thread counts, socket and platform support, memory generation and module compatibility, memory capacity and bandwidth, power requirements, availability, and workload-specific performance. Until those are published, neither the 192-core headline claim nor the reported 72-core configuration should be treated as a confirmed product specification.
