Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf a link won’t open, first identify whether the problem affects one link, one website, or every link—and note what happens when you click. A blocked pop-up, a browser error, a broken destination, and a lost internet connection need different fixes. Work through the checks below in order; start with the least disruptive.
Start by identifying what fails
Click the link once and note the result: nothing happens, a new tab or window briefly appears, a blank page loads, a download starts, or an error message appears. Then compare the scope:

- One link: The link may be malformed, expired, or pointing to a page that no longer exists.
- One website: The destination may be unavailable or misconfigured. Chrome notes that a site may be responsible when other sites open normally (Google Chrome Help: common error messages).
- Many links or sites: Check the browser, device, and internet connection before changing settings.
This distinction matters: a browser setting is unlikely to repair a broken link on just one site, while a site outage would not usually explain why every link fails.

Check whether Chrome blocked a pop-up
If clicking appears to do nothing or the expected page was meant to open in a separate window, look for a blocked-pop-up indicator near the right side of Chrome’s address bar. Chrome blocks pop-ups by default, but lets you allow them for an individual site.

- Connects a USB 3.0 device (computer/laptop) to a router, modem, or network switch to deliver Gigabit Ethernet to your network connection. Does not support Smart TV or gaming consoles (e.g.Nintendo Switch).
- Supported features include Wake-on-LAN function, Green Ethernet & IEEE 802.3az-2010 (Energy Efficient Ethernet)
- Supports IPv4/IPv6 pack Checksum Offload Engine (COE) to reduce Cental Processing Unit (CPU) loading
- Compatible with Windows 8.1 or higher, Mac OS
- In Chrome, open the page where you clicked the link.
- Look for the pop-up blocked indicator in the address bar.
- If you trust the site and expected a legitimate pop-up, select the indicator and allow pop-ups for that site. Chrome’s instructions are under Block or allow pop-ups in Chrome.
Use a site-specific exception rather than allowing pop-ups everywhere. If there is no blocked-pop-up indicator, continue to the error or connection checks instead of changing this setting.
Read the error message before changing settings
In Chrome, the error code can narrow down what failed. These descriptions are clues, not proof of a single cause; the same error may have more than one explanation.

| Chrome error | What it indicates | Useful next check |
|---|---|---|
ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED |
The hostname does not exist or is resolving differently. | Check the URL for a typo and try the site’s main address. If only this destination fails, the link or site may be at fault. |
ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED |
Chrome reports that the device is not connected to the internet. | Check Wi-Fi or mobile data, then try a known working site. |
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT |
The connection took too long; the network may be slow or the site busy. | Try again later and compare another site or network. |
ERR_CONNECTION_RESET |
The connection was interrupted. Possible factors listed by Chrome include unstable connectivity, an outdated browser, a VPN, or security software. | Check whether other sites load; update Chrome if needed and consider whether a VPN or security setting is affecting the connection. |
ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED |
The device changed or lost its network connection while the page was loading. | Reconnect to a stable network and reload the page. |
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED |
The site refused the connection or access is blocked. | Try the destination later; if it is a work or school network, access rules may be involved. |
ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE |
The page sent no data and may be down. | Check whether the site’s main page works or try again later. |
Chrome also documents redirect-loop errors that can be related to cookies, and secure-connection errors that may reflect outdated security configuration on the site. Don’t bypass a browser security warning just to reach a page. See Chrome’s error-message guide for its explanations of these and other messages.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCheck the connection and compare another browser or network
- Open a site you know usually works. If it also fails, check whether the device is connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- If several sites fail, reconnect to the network and try again. Chrome’s page-loading guidance begins with checking the internet connection (Google Chrome Help).
- If available, open the same destination in another browser. If it works there, the issue is more likely specific to Chrome or its settings; if it fails in multiple browsers, the link, site, or network is a stronger possibility.
- If possible, compare another network. A page that works on one network but not another may be affected by the connection or its access restrictions.
These comparisons help isolate the fault; they do not prove exactly what caused it. Chrome’s instructions are Chrome-specific and are not a universal fix for every browser or operating system.

Test Chrome’s browsing state before clearing data
Open the page in a Chrome Incognito window. If it works there but not in a regular window, an extension or stored site data may be involved. Incognito is a diagnostic comparison, not a guarantee that extensions or other browser factors are ruled out.
- Review extensions: Temporarily turn off extensions that could affect pages or links, then retry. Re-enable them afterward one at a time to identify a possible conflict.
- Clear site data only if indicated: Cookies can keep you signed in and store site preferences. Removing cookies may sign you out or reset site choices; it is not a harmless first step. Try removing relevant site data if the issue appears limited to a site or its redirect behavior.
- Reduce browser load: Close tabs you do not need, then retry the page.
- Restart and update Chrome: Restart the browser or device, and install a Chrome update if one is available.
Google recommends Incognito, reviewing extensions, clearing cache and cookies when appropriate, freeing memory, restarting, and updating Chrome for page-loading problems. Its full guidance is at Fix page crashes and loading errors in Chrome. Follow the least disruptive relevant step first; clearing all browsing data or disabling security protections is not required for every failure.

Check which browser receives links from other apps
If the link comes from email, a document, or another app, it may be opening in the system’s default browser rather than the one you expected. Google says, “When you set Chrome as your default browser, links open automatically in Chrome.” The setting’s location varies by platform; use Google’s instructions for making Chrome the default browser on a computer or its platform-specific default-browser instructions. If links open in the wrong browser, check the device’s default-browser setting rather than repeatedly clicking the link.

When the problem is likely on the website
If other sites open and the failure is isolated to one destination, the site may be down, the link may be broken, or the site may have a redirect or security-configuration problem. Try the site’s main address, check the link spelling if it is visible, and try again later. For a redirect-loop message, cookies may be involved; for a secure-connection warning, do not proceed by bypassing the warning. The site owner may need to repair the destination or its security setup (Chrome error-message guidance).

Respond carefully to suspicious redirects or browser changes
A link that sends you to unexpected pages is different from one that simply fails to load. Google lists unexpected ads or pop-ups, unwanted extensions or toolbars returning, and browser settings changing without permission among signs of unwanted software. Avoid interacting with suspicious pages, review unfamiliar extensions, and consult Google’s guidance for removing unwanted ads, pop-ups, and malware. Use trusted security tools available for your device; these symptoms alone do not establish that malware is present.
