To label audio as a dog growl, an application needs a separate classification step, such as a trained sound classifier.
What a browser FFT actually tells you
The Web Audio API’s AnalyserNode provides frequency-domain and time-domain data that developers can use to inspect or visualize audio. MDN’s Web Audio API visualization guide describes using these data to create visualizations.

An FFT represents signal energy by frequency over an analysis window. Its bins are numerical measurements, not semantic categories: they do not say “growl,” “bark,” or “engine.” A rough or low-frequency pattern might help someone examine a recording, but the spectrum alone does not identify what produced it. Different sources can produce similar acoustic patterns.
Why frequency data is not a sound label
Turning audio into a named category requires interpretation beyond the FFT. A classifier, for example, compares audio with categories it was trained or programmed to recognize and returns a predicted label. Its performance depends on the particular model and the sounds and recording conditions it can handle.

Apple’s Sound Analysis documentation illustrates this separate layer: it describes classification requests using a trained classifier and the option of using a custom model for custom categories. That is an example of a classification system, not evidence that a browser includes a dog-growl classifier.
What FFT settings change—and what they do not
The Web Audio API specification defines AnalyserNode.fftSize as a power of two from 32 to 32,768 sample frames, with a default of 2,048. The frequency-bin count is half the FFT size, and the specification notes that larger sizes can be computationally costly.

- Used Book in Good Condition
Changing the FFT size affects the analysis window and the frequency data available to inspect. It does not add sound-recognition capability: no setting makes the analyzer know that a signal came from a dog.

What to look for if you need a dog-growl label
- Output: Does the tool return frequency or waveform measurements, or does it actually return a sound category?
- Classification method: Is a trained model or explicit classification logic applied after audio capture?
- Relevant validation: Is there evidence that the model was evaluated on dog growls and on recordings resembling your setting, such as the room, background noise, and device?
- Scope of any claim: A result for one model or recording condition does not establish how another model will perform.
The cited documentation establishes browser audio-analysis features and gives a platform example of sound classification. It does not establish a specific validated browser dog-growl classifier or its accuracy. That leaves open whether a particular browser-based model exists; it does not support treating a generic FFT display as one.
