7onic began as a response to a problem its creator kept encountering: small differences between a Figma design and the interface implemented in code. The project’s central idea was to make design tokens the shared source of truth, then use one command to generate code-facing outputs. That is the creator’s account of the motivation and workflow—not independent evidence that 7onic eliminates design drift.
What prompted the creator to build 7onic?
The creator describes repeatedly finding small mismatches during design-to-code handoffs. One example was a card whose spacing was two pixels off, whose corner radius was 8px rather than the 6px specified in Figma, and whose shadow was close but not exact. They say they had worked across design and frontend code for about ten years and that similar discrepancies recurred. These are personal recollections, not measurements of how often design drift occurs across teams.

The creator’s diagnosis was that design and code had separate sources of truth, with no clear owner responsible for keeping them synchronized. In one example, a developer selected a Tailwind gray that looked close to a Figma color; another developer later treated the code value as canonical. The creator says this kind of decision could leave two similar, but different, dark colors in use. As they put it: “The actual problem is obvious in hindsight: there was no shared source of truth.”
Why did the creator move beyond manual token exports?
The creator says they tried several ways to move design tokens from Figma into code. Their accounts explain the practical problem they were trying to solve: getting tokens out of a design file was only part of the work; the values also needed to be connected reliably to the codebase.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Manual Figma token export into Tailwind: The creator says this worked for about three weeks, until an updated Figma file was not synchronized.
- Style Dictionary: They describe it as powerful, but say configuring the outputs they needed took longer than building the components and required a weekend spent on transforms and formatters.
- Token Studio for Figma: They say its exported JSON needed additional processing for their Tailwind project.
These are the creator’s experiences with their own requirements, not a controlled comparison or a general verdict on those tools.
How does the token workflow described in the article work?
The creator describes a rule for 7onic: visual values should come from the token file rather than ad hoc utility classes or arbitrary values. In the workflow they outline, figma-tokens.json is the central file, and a sync-tokens command generates project outputs from it.

The creator reports that the command generated 11 files. That is a count reported in the article, not a verified current output count. The article page displays “Apr 16” without a year, so its publication year is not established.

The creator describes 7onic as a React component system built with Radix UI primitives and CVA variants. They report that it had 42 components when the article was written. The creator says the project began with npm installation and later added a command for copying source into a consuming project:

npx 7onic add button input select
According to the article, this command copies editable .tsx component files into the project’s own components/ directory. This copy-to-project approach gives the consuming project source files to edit locally, rather than requiring every component to remain an installed package dependency. The article describes the approach at publication; it does not establish current command behavior or compatibility.
The creator says they chose Radix because accessibility-related behavior—such as dialog focus management, keyboard navigation in dropdowns, and toast announcements—can be difficult to implement from scratch. They describe Radix as unstyled, leaving 7onic to supply the visual treatment through design tokens. This rationale is not evidence that 7onic has passed an accessibility audit.

What trade-offs does the creator acknowledge?
The creator says building the system alone made it easier to enforce the rule against hard-coded visual values. They also acknowledge that a design system can keep expanding and that 7onic was still incomplete. The article describes five button sizes, with default as the base size; these are reported design choices, not universal guidance.
The article’s closing description calls 7onic open source, free, and MIT licensed, and mentions documentation and an interactive playground. Those are statements from the article, whose publication year is not shown; current licensing, availability, and features are not independently established here.

What the account establishes—and what it does not
The article is useful as a first-person explanation of a design-system rationale: recurring visual mismatches led its creator to centralize tokens and generate several formats, while distributing editable React component files as an option. Its reported figures—11 generated files, 42 components, five button sizes, and about ten years working across design and frontend—are autobiographical implementation details, not industry statistics.
The account does not provide an independent evaluation, a measured reduction in design drift, or a controlled comparison of token workflows. It also does not independently verify current compatibility, accessibility, licensing, or product availability. Its strongest supported takeaway is the creator’s intended approach: reduce opportunities for separate design and code values to diverge by treating tokens as the common source.
