DC Studios sits within Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. WBD’s corporate announcements placed it in the company’s Streaming & Studios business. The parent company therefore remained WBD on October 4, 2026, the date used for this answer.

WBD and Paramount Skydance announced an agreement for Paramount Skydance to acquire WBD. Their September 30, 2026 update said they expected the transaction to close on October 6, subject to customary closing conditions. An expected closing is not a completed acquisition, so the ownership status on October 4 was still WBD. See the joint transaction update and Paramount Skydance’s announcement.
How the corporate structure fits together
The simplest way to distinguish the entities is:
- DC Studios: the studio responsible for DC’s film and television studio operations.
- Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc.: the parent company that included DC Studios on October 4, 2026.
- Paramount Skydance Corporation: the announced buyer of WBD, with the transaction expected to close after the date of this answer.
In June 2025, WBD announced a plan to separate its businesses, placing DC Studios with Warner Bros., HBO and HBO Max in a planned Streaming & Studios business. In July 2025, WBD said the planned company holding that group would be called Warner Bros. Those were plans, not a completed separation; the later proposed acquisition changed the near-term corporate context. WBD’s June 2025 plan and July 2025 announcement describe the intended structure.
Who runs DC Studios?
James Gunn and Peter Safran are DC Studios’ co-chairmen and co-CEOs, according to WBD’s leadership information. They run the studio; neither is the corporate owner. WBD’s announcements describe their appointments, and its executive biographies list their roles: James Gunn and Peter Safran.

If the announced transaction closes as expected, DC Studios would become part of the corporate portfolio of Paramount Skydance through its acquisition of WBD. As of October 4, however, the closing was still in the future and conditional. The announced date should not be treated as proof that the transaction actually closed; a later status requires a later official announcement.
