It depends on your organization’s own Google Cloud settings. Visibility is set by IAM bindings, Cloud Logging permissions and the app’s observability settings. No one sees prompt text by default just because they are an admin. Usage audit logs record request metadata. Prompt and response content appears only if an administrator turns on prompt-input and response-output logging.
What the usage records can include
Google’s usage audit log documentation publishes a field-level schema for the Search, Assistant, streaming Assistant and conversational-answer service paths. Each field is marked sensitive or not sensitive.

Search requests
- Query text is sensitive.
- User information is logged, but only the time zone and precise location are marked sensitive.
- The response attribution token and result IDs are not sensitive.
Assistant requests
- Query text and query parts are sensitive.
- Responses can include grounded answer text and grounding metadata (sensitive), plus state, tokens, skipped-reason information and agent metadata.
- Grounding references are partly sensitive. Most reference subfields are marked sensitive. Document metadata fields such as document and URI are the exceptions.
Streaming Assistant records
- Request and grounded-response content is similar to the Assistant records.
- Agent specifications are included, with selected input, context, instruction and artifact fields marked sensitive.
- Some model metadata is logged as non-sensitive. Google notes it may not describe a specialized agent that a turn was handed off to.
Conversational answer records
- Query text and certain document chunk fields are sensitive.
- Other identifiers and model configuration fields are marked not sensitive.
This is a schema, not a guarantee. Not every app or request emits every listed field.

Sensitive fields are logged only when prompt-input and response-output logging is enabled. With it off, sensitive text fields are elided and other sensitive values are omitted. Google’s observability settings page warns: “When enabled, Cloud Logging logs the full content of user prompts and responses. This includes sensitive data or Personally Identifiable Information (PII).” It adds: “Enabling this setting logs potentially sensitive data, including PII. Restrict log access to authorized personnel only.”

Who inside your organization can see it
Enabling and reading the logs
- Enabling usage audit logging requires Gemini Enterprise Admin (
roles/discoveryengine.agentspaceAdmin). - Accessing Cloud Logging requires Logs Viewer (
roles/logging.viewer). - For the
_Defaultbucket, Google identifies Logs Viewer, Private Logs Viewer and Logs View Accessor as the roles controlling access.
Ways to narrow access
Per the same guide, you can use IAM conditions, log views, log sinks to a more restricted project, tags and field-level access controls.
App and data store scope
Under Google’s granular access controls, project IAM generally applies across all apps and data stores in the project. Resource-level access can limit principals to particular apps or data stores, but broad project-level predefined roles override those narrower policies. Using a data store in an app needs permissions on both the app and the data store. For connectors that enforce document permissions, source-system ACLs still govern which individual documents a user can reach.

Can Google personnel see it?
This is a separate question. Access Transparency logs Google personnel actions involving customer content. It has documented exceptions: global (rather than multi-region) resources, preview-feature data and search analytics. It does not cover every Google access event in every deployment.
Google’s FAQ says: “Your data—including prompts, outputs, and training—aren’t used to train Google models or models for any other customer”. That concerns Google’s model training. It says nothing about who inside your organization can read your logs.

It helps operators understand request flows, system behavior and connector failures. Cloud Audit Logs record administrative and access activity per API method. The permission type decides whether a method produces Data Access or Admin Activity logs. The audited methods include analytics configuration and export.

Checklist for finding out who sees what
- Ask your Google Cloud administrator who holds Gemini Enterprise Admin, Logs Viewer, and any bucket-level or field-level log permissions.
- Check whether prompt and response logging is enabled. If it is, treat the logs as containing possible PII.
- Check whether roles are granted at project level, which spans apps and data stores, or at resource level. Remember that project-level roles can defeat resource restrictions.
- For connected sources, review the source system’s ACLs.
- Review Access Transparency enrollment and its exceptions if Google personnel access matters to you.
