The Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 are both rated IP68 in Xiaomi UK listings; Xiaomi’s published static-freshwater test conditions differ, and neither rating is a recommendation to submerge the phone in everyday use.
Which Xiaomi phones have a published water-resistance rating?
The exact model and regional version matter. Xiaomi’s official pages list IP68 for several models, but published test conditions and caveats vary. The examples below are illustrative, not a complete global catalogue or a guarantee that each model is currently sold in every country.

What do the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 ratings mean?
For both phones, Xiaomi UK specifies static freshwater, a maximum test duration of 30 minutes, and a water-to-phone temperature difference of no more than 5°C. The stated depth is different: up to 6 m for the 17 Ultra and up to 4 m for the 17. Those figures describe the manufacturer’s test conditions; they are not recommended swimming depths or a promise that a phone will survive a real-world dunk.
Xiaomi’s 17 Ultra specifications refer to IEC 60529 and EN 60529 and explain that the tested conditions “do not correspond to the normal conditions of consumer use.” An IP68 label is therefore a classification based on specified testing, not an all-purpose waterproof guarantee.

Can you take a Xiaomi phone swimming or to the beach?
Do not rely on an IP rating as permission to swim with a phone. Xiaomi specifically says the 17 Ultra is not recommended for beach or pool use and advises users not to test its water resistance themselves. The cited Xiaomi pages do not establish swimming as a safe use for the other models either.
Pool water, seawater, movement, and exposure conditions are not the static-freshwater test described for the 17-series models. A waterproof pouch can provide an additional barrier for water-adjacent activities, but it is not Xiaomi-tested in the cited materials and does not extend the phone’s IP rating.

How can water resistance decline?
Xiaomi warns that the 17 Ultra’s ingress protection may deteriorate through everyday wear, physical damage, or disassembly required for repair. Xiaomi’s 14T Pro support page also warns that harsh environments can reduce resistance, but it does not establish a comparable test depth for that model. Xiaomi 14T Pro support

Because condition and prior repairs can affect protection, a rating for a new phone should not be assumed to describe a damaged, worn, or opened device. Xiaomi’s 17 Ultra page also says liquid damage outside the stated test conditions is not covered by the warranty language shown there; check the warranty terms for your country and model.

What should you do if a Xiaomi phone gets wet?
Xiaomi advises against charging the 17 Ultra, operating physical buttons, or removing the SIM tray while the product is exposed to moisture. Follow the model’s own instructions and let the device dry before handling ports or trays; do not deliberately immerse it to see whether the rating holds.

How to check a Xiaomi phone before buying
- Confirm the exact model name and regional SKU on the local Xiaomi product page. Specifications and availability can vary by market.
- Look for an official IP rating for that exact model rather than assuming all Xiaomi phones share one.
- Read the stated test medium, depth, duration, temperature limit, and manufacturer cautions. Do not treat a laboratory depth as a safe-use recommendation.
- Check the local warranty wording for liquid damage, especially if the phone has been damaged or repaired.
- Match the rating to your intended use. If you need a phone for swimming or repeated water exposure, the cited Xiaomi guidance does not establish that use as safe.
