Check what is using power before changing settings
Open Settings > Battery and review the usage chart or app power percentages. Xiaomi says this view can show usage trends and help identify apps consuming power. - Lower brightness: Use the lowest comfortable level. Auto brightness is worth trying if it suits your surroundings; Xiaomi also recommends it as a battery-saving measure. A dimmer screen may be harder to see outdoors.
- Try 60 Hz: If your phone is set to a higher refresh rate, switch to 60 Hz and compare smoothness with battery behavior. Motion may feel less fluid, and available refresh-rate choices depend on the model. Xiaomi’s guidance is to try 60 Hz when drain is high; it does not promise a specific runtime gain.
- Turn off Sunlight mode when you do not need it: This can reduce the display behavior intended for strong sunlight, so leave it available for conditions where visibility matters.
- Limit Always-on Display: If you do not need it continuously, schedule it or turn it off. If notifications are the only part you do not use, see whether your phone lets you disable just those. You will have less glanceable time or notification information when it is off.
- Try Dark mode if you prefer it: Xiaomi says Dark mode can help in low-light environments, but gives no universal screen-on-time figure. Treat any benefit as device- and use-dependent.
- Consider disabling haptic feedback: Xiaomi lists it as a possible additional drain. This is optional if you prefer the tactile feedback.
Xiaomi’s general guidance includes the exact warning, “A high screen refresh rate can cause rapid battery drain.” Its 2022 ESG report separately describes an auto-adjust refresh-rate feature that lowers the rate when the screen is idle; that statement does not establish that every Xiaomi model has the same control. Limit background activity selectively
Battery saver is not a display-only adjustment. Xiaomi describes it as restricting some functions and background activity. On the Redmi 13C 5G, its documented effects include freezing background apps and automatically reducing brightness. If a particular app is responsible for noticeable drain, review that app’s background behavior rather than restricting everything. Be cautious with messaging, security, navigation, and other apps that need timely background activity. Use Battery saver when you need more time and accept that some background activity or functions may be limited. On the Xiaomi 14T Pro, Xiaomi documents the path as Settings > Battery > Current mode; a Control Center shortcut is also available. Other phones may use a different path or expose different controls. Ultra battery saver as a reserve mode
On the Xiaomi 14T, Ultra battery saver limits background processes, reduces performance, disables non-essential features, and switches automatically to Dark mode. Those trade-offs make it a poor everyday choice if your priority is retaining useful features, but they may be acceptable when keeping the phone available on very low power is more important. Find the equivalent controls on your Xiaomi phone
Menu names and availability vary by model, region, and MIUI or HyperOS version. Search Settings for Battery, refresh rate, or Always-on display if the documented path does not match your phone, and consult the support page for your exact model. Xiaomi’s instructions for the Xiaomi 14T, Xiaomi 14T Pro, and Redmi 13C 5G do not establish identical controls on every device.

What to expect from these changes
Xiaomi’s support guidance does not quantify how many extra screen-on minutes any one setting will provide. Results depend on the phone, display, apps, signal conditions, and how you use it, so compare your own Battery usage view after changing one or two settings at a time. A historical Xiaomi figure should not be mistaken for a current phone runtime claim: the company’s 2020 annual report said MIUI 12.5 reduced average memory use by 35% and system utilization by 25%; those system measures do not establish a screen-on-time improvement for current Xiaomi devices.
