For a straightforward streaming setup, the Elgato Facecam MK.2 is a documented 1080p60 option with UVC support and a guide that names OBS. Choose the Elgato Facecam 4K if you specifically need its listed 2160p60 mode and can connect it over USB 3.0; Logitech’s current Brio page lists 4K at 30 fps and 1080p up to 60 fps. None of those specifications proves that a camera will track your avatar more accurately: check the requirements of your tracking software and operating system before buying.
What should a VTuber webcam do?
A webcam supplies video to a computer or compatible device. Your tracking software uses that input to drive an avatar; the camera does not create or animate the avatar by itself. For streaming, consider the camera’s supported capture modes, connection and encoding requirements, field of view, focus, mounting, and compatibility with your intended software.

The specifications below describe manufacturer-listed capabilities, not independent image-quality tests or tracking benchmarks. A higher resolution is not evidence of more accurate face tracking.

| Camera | Listed video modes | Connection and software notes | Field of view and focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elgato Facecam MK.2 | Uncompressed modes up to 1080p60 | USB Type-C; UVC 1.5. Elgato’s guide recommends direct connection to USB 3.0 or better and names OBS among supported applications. | 84-degree field of view; fixed focus, 30–120 cm range. |
| Elgato Facecam 4K | Up to 2160p60 in MJPG over USB 3.0; listed 4K30 and 1440p modes have their own format limits; 1080p60 is also listed. | UVC 1.5. Listed system requirements are Windows 11 or later, macOS 13 or later, or iPadOS 17 or later on an iPad with native USB-C. | 90-degree field of view; fixed focus. Support page lists a 1/4-inch mounting point. |
| Logitech Brio | Current product page lists 4K at 30 fps and 1080p up to 60 fps. | A separate support page for the BRIO 4K Stream Edition names OBS and specifies USB 3.0 for 4K; that edition’s page limits USB 2.0 to 1080p30. Do not assume those edition-specific details apply to every Brio model. | Not stated on the cited current product page. |
| Original Elgato Facecam | 1080p60 | Elgato lists OBS compatibility; the product page marks this model discontinued, so treat it as a legacy or second-hand option. | Not stated in the cited material. |
When does 4K matter?
Consider a 4K camera when you have a specific reason to capture at that resolution, such as a workflow that benefits from a high-resolution source. The Facecam 4K’s 2160p60 mode is listed for MJPG over USB 3.0; codec and connection determine which modes are available. Its specifications do not show that it will improve avatar tracking compared with a 1080p webcam.

Logitech’s current Brio product page lists 4K at 30 fps rather than 60 fps, alongside 1080p up to 60 fps. Keep that product-page information separate from Logitech’s support details for the specifically named BRIO 4K Stream Edition.
How do field of view, focus, and mounting affect setup?
Field of view affects how much of the scene the camera sees. The MK.2’s listed 84 degrees is narrower than the Facecam 4K’s 90 degrees, which may matter if your tracking setup needs a particular framing or camera placement. A wider view is not automatically better: position the camera and check the tracking software’s framing requirements.

Check compatibility before you buy
- Read the tracking app’s requirements. Check its supported camera input, operating systems, and any resolution or frame-rate limits. The cited camera specifications do not verify tracking performance in a particular VTuber application.
- Match the mode to the port and format. For Facecam 4K’s listed 2160p60 mode, Elgato specifies MJPG over USB 3.0. For the BRIO 4K Stream Edition, Logitech specifies USB 3.0 for 4K and lists USB 2.0 as limited to 1080p30. Do not assume a camera will offer every advertised mode through every connection.
- Confirm operating-system support. Facecam 4K lists Windows 11 or later, macOS 13 or later, and iPadOS 17 or later on an iPad with native USB-C. Verify the camera and tracking software requirements for your own device before purchasing.
- Check streaming software compatibility. Elgato’s MK.2 guide names OBS and other UVC-supporting applications. Logitech’s cited OBS statement applies to the BRIO 4K Stream Edition support document, not automatically to all Brio models.
- Plan placement and framing. Compare the listed field of view, focus details, and mounting point with your setup; then confirm your tracking app can work with the camera’s intended position.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose Facecam MK.2 if its listed 1080p60 modes, UVC support, OBS guidance, and 84-degree view suit your setup.
- Consider Facecam 4K if you need its documented 2160p60 MJPG mode and have USB 3.0, a supported operating system, and software that accepts the mode.
- Consider Logitech Brio if the current product page’s 4K30 or 1080p up-to-60-fps modes fit your needs; verify the exact Brio model and its connection-specific details.
- Look at the original Facecam only as a legacy option because Elgato marks it discontinued.
