Waze’s phone-based lock-screen navigation feature is explicitly unsupported on Android Auto. Settings and Favorites editing are also described as unavailable in Waze’s beta guidance, but that evidence is beta-specific. Waze does support reporting incidents by voice on Android Auto in countries where Talk to report is available.
What Waze features aren’t supported on Android Auto?
The evidence supports one clear limitation and one qualified one—not three categorical omissions. The distinction matters: Waze can still navigate on the car display, and saved places can still be selected there. The limitations concern the phone’s lock-screen presentation and, in beta guidance, changing settings or managing Favorites from the projected interface.

| Update settings or add/edit Favorites on the projected display | Not available in Waze Beta guidance | Beta-specific; Google says saved places added in the phone app can be selected for navigation in Android Auto. |
| Report incidents by voice | Supported through Talk to report | Waze says availability may vary by country. |
1. Waze lock-screen navigation does not work with Android Auto
Waze’s “Lock screen navigation” feature is designed to keep directions visible on the phone while it is locked, let you view the route, and allow you to report what you see. Waze says the feature is not supported on Android Auto, Android Automotive (AAOS), or CarPlay. The setting is on by default, according to Waze Help.

This does not mean Waze navigation stops when the phone is locked or that Waze cannot navigate on the car’s Android Auto display. It means the phone-specific lock-screen presentation feature is unavailable in those connected-car modes.

2. Settings and Favorites editing are limited in Waze Beta guidance
Waze Beta Help describes the projected app as a limited version focused primarily on navigation and says users cannot update settings or add or modify Favorites from the car display. Its guidance is to set preferences on the phone before connecting.
That is beta documentation, so it should not be treated as definitive proof of the behavior in every current production version. Also, editing a saved place is different from navigating to one: Google’s Android Auto guide says you can select a saved place previously added in the Waze mobile app and navigate to it on Android Auto.

Can you report hazards by voice on Android Auto?
Yes, where the feature is available. Waze’s current Talk to report instructions say to enable the option, then tap its icon on the in-car system and speak naturally. Waze cautions that Talk to report may not be available in all countries.

Google’s announcement about Conversational Reporting provides rollout background, but it does not negate Waze Help’s current Android Auto instructions. Older claims that voice incident reporting is simply unavailable are too broad.

Does custom voice guidance work in the car?
Custom voice directions require setup on the phone, but Waze says the selected voice will play in the car. Its custom voice instructions describe recording and selecting a voice on the phone; they do not establish that custom voice playback is unsupported on Android Auto.

- Set Waze preferences on the phone if you are following the beta guidance that settings cannot be changed on the projected display.
- Add or edit Favorites in the mobile app; select an already-saved place from Android Auto when you want to navigate to it.
- Enable Talk to report on the phone and check whether it is available in your country before relying on voice reports in the car.
- Record and select a custom voice on the phone if you want to use one; Waze says it will play in the car.
Android Auto and Android Automotive are separate platforms. Waze’s lock-screen help names both, but the Android Auto workflows described above should not be assumed to apply identically to Android Automotive. Availability may also change as Waze updates its app and guidance.
