Five providers appear in recent 2026 comparison coverage—ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Private Internet Access, Proton VPN, and Hotspot Shield—but the available evidence does not support a uniform, definitive ranking of all five.
Before choosing one, check whether it supports your viewing device and read its current Prime Video troubleshooting guidance. A VPN also does not promise access to another country’s full catalog: Amazon’s travel rules and content restrictions still apply.

What a VPN can—and cannot—change on Prime Video
Amazon says members traveling outside their home country can stream selected titles, rather than promising the full home-country catalog everywhere. EU residents traveling within the EU can access titles available in their country of residence. Amazon also says content may be subject to restrictions imposed by content suppliers, and device limits can vary by region. Read Amazon’s guidance on watching Prime Video while abroad and its usage rules before relying on a particular title being available.

Five VPNs appearing in 2026 Prime Video comparisons
The table summarizes what the cited coverage establishes, not a side-by-side test. Security.org includes all five in its 2026 selection; Top10VPN names ExpressVPN as its top choice based on its own testing, while TechRadar notes that results vary by provider and region. Those are editorial findings, not tests conducted for this guide, and the sources do not establish identical methods across all five.
| VPN | What the available evidence says | What to check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| ExpressVPN | Its support guidance addresses Prime Video troubleshooting and says to connect to a location matching the viewer’s current country. It notes that billing address can affect availability of some titles. It offers apps for supported Amazon Fire TV and Android TV devices, plus router coverage for devices without a compatible app. | Confirm support for your exact TV model and consult the current troubleshooting page. These setup details do not guarantee playback or a catalog change. |
| NordVPN | Its support article addresses Prime Video errors and content that will not load. It says the library is generally determined by the account billing address, with additional caveats for EU travel. Editorial findings vary by region. | Check the current Prime Video support guidance and your device’s app compatibility; do not assume a server will work consistently across locations. |
| Private Internet Access | Security.org lists it among its 2026 Prime Video VPN selections. The available evidence does not establish a comparable independent test result or an official Prime-specific support claim. | Verify current streaming support and whether the app works on your device before subscribing. |
| Proton VPN | It appears in the comparison, which says its free plan does not support streaming. | Do not assume the free plan is suitable for Prime Video. Check the current terms and features of any paid plan you are considering. |
| Hotspot Shield | Security.org lists it as an option. The available evidence does not provide detailed Prime Video support guidance or a comparable test result. | Look for current Prime Video troubleshooting information and confirm device support before choosing it. |

How to choose for your device and situation
Watching on a television
Check the exact model and operating system, not just the brand name. ExpressVPN says its app is available on supported Amazon Fire TV and Android TV devices. For a TV that cannot run a compatible VPN app, router coverage may be an alternative, but setup and device support depend on the router and provider. Confirm compatibility before buying or changing equipment.
Watching while traveling
Start with Amazon’s travel rules and the titles available to your account. ExpressVPN recommends connecting to a server location that matches the country where the viewer is currently located. Its support page explains: “To comply with the Amazon Prime Video Terms of Use and ExpressVPN Terms of Service, you should connect to a server location that matches the country where you are currently located.” This is ExpressVPN Support’s guidance, last updated July 21, 2026—not a statement from Amazon. ExpressVPN and NordVPN both note that the account billing address can affect title availability.

Choosing based on the strength of the evidence
- If you want documented provider-specific Prime Video guidance, start by reviewing the support pages from ExpressVPN and NordVPN.
- If you are considering Private Internet Access or Hotspot Shield, verify Prime Video support directly; the cited coverage does not establish comparable test results or detailed provider guidance for them.
- If you are considering Proton VPN, distinguish its free plan from paid plans: the cited comparison says the free plan does not support streaming.
- Compare current device support and troubleshooting options before weighing a provider’s placement in an editorial ranking.
What to do when Prime Video shows a VPN or proxy error
A VPN/proxy warning or a title that will not load does not prove that one specific setting is wrong. Prime Video availability can depend on location, account billing details, content rights, and the connection being detected. Use your provider’s current instructions rather than assuming that switching to another country will solve the problem.
- Check the title and travel rules. Confirm that the title is available for your account and location under Amazon’s travel guidance.
- Check the location setting. If using ExpressVPN, follow its recommendation to select a location matching the country where you are currently located.
- Review provider troubleshooting. Consult the current Prime Video instructions from your VPN provider, including its guidance for connection errors and content that does not load.
- Confirm the device is supported. Check the VPN provider’s current app support for your exact TV, streaming device, or router.
- Contact the provider’s support team if the issue continues. VPN compatibility can change, so ask about your current country, device, and the specific error rather than relying on a general list of “working” servers.
Are any of these VPNs guaranteed to work?
No. The cited comparisons and provider help pages describe options and troubleshooting, not a guarantee of access. Results can differ by country, server, device, and time, while Amazon’s content restrictions and account-related availability still apply. Choose based on documented device support and current support guidance, and treat any compatibility claim as subject to change.
