Google Wallet currently lists 12 U.S. jurisdictions for driver’s licenses and state IDs: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, and Puerto Rico. Where supported, the digital ID can be used at participating TSA airport checkpoints and by some apps for identity and age verification—not as a universal replacement for a physical ID.
Which jurisdictions are supported?
Google’s U.S. Wallet help page lists these jurisdictions for adding a driver’s license or state ID:

- Arizona
- Arkansas
- California
- Colorado
- Georgia
- Iowa
- Maryland
- Montana
- New Mexico
- North Dakota
- Ohio
- Puerto Rico
See Google’s U.S. instructions for adding a driver’s license or state ID and follow the link for your issuing jurisdiction. Being on the list does not mean every ID or every use is automatically eligible: the issuing agency handles verification, and availability can change.

TSA checkpoints at supported airports
Google documents presenting the ID at supported TSA checkpoints, using NFC or a QR code. This is not acceptance at every airport or checkpoint. For domestic TSA checkpoint use, the digital ID must be REAL ID compliant. Check whether your airport and checkpoint support digital ID before traveling, and keep physical identification available as needed. See Google’s guidance on using an ID at TSA.
#1 Best Overall
- It not only supports Mifare cards and Class A and B cards conforming to the ISO 14443 standard, but also supports NFC and FeliCa contactless technology.
- This is a USB hot-pluggable device that complies with the CCID standard and is ideal for applications such as personal identity security authentication and online micropayments.
- This is a USB full-speed device (12 Mbps), which reads NFC tags at 106 kbps、212 Kbps and 242 Kbps, allowing faster read and write speeds and higher efficiency
- To increase the safety factor, you can choose to configure an ISO7816-3 compliant SAM card slot in the ACR122.
- Widely used in areas such as access control, electronic payment, bus e-ticketing, highway toll collection systems, network verification, logistics, and supply chain management.
At the checkpoint, review the information requested, choose whether to share it, and authenticate on your phone. A Wallet ID is a convenient presentation option where supported, not a guarantee that you can travel without physical identification.
Some apps for identity and age verification
Some apps, including car rental services, accept Google Wallet IDs for identity or age verification. Acceptance is determined by the individual app; do not assume a retailer, service, or government agency will accept it. In a supported app, review the requested information, consent to sharing, and authenticate before the credential is presented.

What you need to add an ID
Google lists these requirements:
- An Android phone running Android 9 or later
- Bluetooth and Nearby devices enabled
- A screen lock
- Your physical ID, so you can capture images of its front and back
- A short face video for verification by the issuing agency
To enroll, open Google Wallet, tap Add to Wallet, choose ID card, and follow the prompts to photograph both sides of the ID and submit the face video. Google says a photo from that video is sent to the issuer for verification. The exact eligibility and approval decision come from the issuing agency; see Google’s setup instructions.

Google says the approved credential is encrypted and stored locally on the phone, not in the user’s Google Account. A U.S. driver’s license or state ID can be saved to only one device. Google also says the phone must reconnect to the internet to keep the ID current; after more than 30 consecutive days offline, the ID will be unavailable until the device reconnects. These details are described in Google’s Wallet ID help page.

Check these points before relying on the digital ID
- Your issuer: Is your jurisdiction on Google’s current U.S. supported list, and does your particular ID qualify?
- Your use: For TSA, does the specific airport checkpoint support digital ID, and is your credential REAL ID compliant? For an app, does that app accept Wallet IDs?
- Your phone: Is it compatible, set up with a screen lock, and able to connect so the ID remains current?
- Your backup: Do you have physical identification available if the checkpoint or app cannot use the digital credential?
Google’s help page does not show a publication date, and jurisdiction support, airport participation, and app acceptance can change. Recheck Google Wallet and your issuing agency before travel or another time-sensitive identity check.
